It's still a solid brawler and leaps and bounds better than Rival Turf. And the music.... So boss still to this day.

When does andsuch post his ALL so the rest of us can vie for 2nd?

I'm hoping to employ the punch-wait-punch-wait system all the way to the (almost) top.

Will put in some runs tonight.

I bet he does a blindfold counterstop run by August 7th :lolz: The man says he isn't a god but crushes most games I've struggled with for the past 20 years.

mjmjr, Kinda Panda, gentleman..

SOR1 is a game everyone should be able to get the ALL for in a months practice. The "1 and done" folk won't, but I'm sure the ones who will actually participate will figure the game out fast. It's a pretty forgiving title.

A forgiving game is best for a competition because the end goal isn't simply clawing your way to stage 2. There is room to focus on scoring (even if the system isn't sophisticated) and room to take things to "the next level". A few important notes IMO:

1. Applying the punch * wait* punch infinite combo
2. Saying "Yes" to Mr. X.

Like many members, I agree that Armored Warriors would have been the most exciting game to play. SOR1 is not very exciting. But it's a lot of fun, and it's a nice way to apply and sharpen basic beat 'em up fundamentals. That's why I voted for it. Armored Warriors kind of throws certain fundamentals out the window.

Ok, first run and the patterns became really easy really quickly.

The punch - wait - punch made sense within seconds.

I died 1x on the Flame-breath boss before I figured where to sneak up behind him.

I died 4x on the short dr. guy who throws the rockets.

Then died 2x on the whip girls going up the elevator on stage 7. They were ducking down behind the elevator walls - felt cheapish, but in hindsight I should have lured them up to where I could see.

This first run took 35 minutes and it felt long.

292,400. I think that's stage 5 where I lost my game. I played as Axel, and am playing the SegaCD version on the Sega Classics pack-in disc.

I'll try to do better next time.

I don't see why not. Totally forgot that it was actually released on the 3DS. I'll add it to the list of available platforms.

Nice ladder board.

Dig it.

Best highscore list ever!

Agreed. It's pretty awesome.

Thanks you guys, since it's my first time running a BOTM thread. I figured I'd make something cool for the occasion. :D

Anyway, played a late-night run before having to crash out for work tomorrow.

Beelzebub - 532400 - Axel - Stage 8 - Genesis

Didn't do as bad as I thought I would. Since it's been quite a while since I've played the original SoR.

The infinite punch combo works wonders, even on crowds, if you can get them close enough. It's also useful on some bosses as well, but specifically the wrestler guy and the fat dude. Unfortunately it's not very useful on the Kruger guy/s and the Blaze clones. Though the Kruger boss is easy if you engage him from a higher plane. Then you can pretty much grab him every time and pummel/slam him to death. Without incurring much, if any damage.

Also, since it hasn't been mentioned before. For those who don't know. You can land on your feet when thrown. If you hold  and press :B: before hitting the ground. This is very useful, especially when fighting against the Blaze clones.
