So how do you train when you pick up a new fighter on a game? Do you make a big poster that has all the moves and put it next to the tv? How much time do you spend on a character until you are very comfortable with them?

me when i get a new fighting game. first thing i do is go on the net and print out all the characters moves. then i just use every single character once or twice and make a desision on who i want to practice with. which usually ends up being the character that feels right for me. if its a team fighting game like kof i find characters that can work together good for combo's etc, and bass it on how familar they feel to me and how good they would all work together. then i usually go into practice mode get some combos down and after i get some shit flowin i start playin the game lol over and over and over and finally i got a team or fighter that i have mastered which ends up bein my best character(s) in a game

First, I usually look for a fighter that appeals to me looks wise or storyline wise then I try them out. I'll then go on the net and look at some FAQ's and print out the movelist. I don't always pay attention to the combo's or strategies section cuz usually the strats and combos arent to my liking(except for tekken) so I like to make up my own strategies and combos but once in a blue moon i'll go by the strategies and combos in the FAQ. I don't purposely go for the fighter with the best moves most powerful moves ever cuz thats shallow. I'll play the game with that character on one difficulty level then i move it up each time I beat it.

Once I get a grip on that character i'll get my brother or a friend to use a really cheap or easy character to use against me and tell them to repeat a hard to stop or cheap move on me so i'll improve my game. Like for SF III i made my brother shoot fireballs at me repeatedly so i could learn to parry good then i made him perform hurricane kicks on me and now I can parry hurricane kicks and multi hitting fireballs. I also made him do the same things on me so I can use Geese Howard's counters better so now my Geese Howard skills are a nightmare for any shoto user. I got my friend to scrub me to death with Paul Phoenix's "phoenix smasher" to the point where I learned to reverse it and sidestep it. When I use my favorite grapplers like Orochi Yashiro, Clark, Hugo, Alex and Zangief I repeately practice ways to combo in my command throws and supers and not just do them right out of the blue. So in a way i put myself thru a sort of "bootcamp", hehe.

For Some reason the characters I tend to like are very difficult to use, I don't choose them because of their difficulty its just that I choose my characters based on looks and most of the time I usually end up with a real doozie of a character to learn.

I just pick a fighter that looks good, and jump right in and experiment with moves. I don't mess with combos.

I never use training mode or any stuff like that. The best way to train is on the job.

I usually start by picking the highlighted fight. Who's is that you asked? It is sorta the person that is the easiest and powerfulest fighter there is.

==EXAMPLE==

Street Fighter++Ryu
KOF+++Terry Bogard

I practice for hours going on my own at first and then priting out a moves list for it. Then when I mastered that one I move on to the next one. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I usually just go straight for Arcade Mode. I don't really worry about the move lists or Practice or anything. I find characters that seem interesting and choose them first. I would rather play as an interesting but difficult character than a boring one I can win with all the time. (I.E. Bao vs. Terry.)

Pick whoever seems appealing at first and then stick with em till you get a good idea about how that game's engine works, then once you have that dialed, slowly toss other characters into the mix. <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">
