I have the game on SNES, PSP, and I think I bought the Switch one on sale years ago. Which is the best version? I noticed the later versions have weird art. I am leaning toward the SNES port cause it's pretty impressive for the hardware. I also heard the other ports are so easy that you can play all the battles in autopilot. I do prefer difficulty. Not sure if there are other things to factor in.

How on earth do you buy a game 3 times and not even bother to even start to play it once?

You have answered your own question. Play the translated SNES version and stop buying other versions.

I didn't buy the SNES and PSP versions. I have a hacked PSP and the SNES roms.

Have any of you even played the game and have any useful information?

I don't want to spend hours comparing each version. I just want to hear from someone that's played a few different versions and can speak about which they feel is the best version.

yeah

Star Ocean 1 is boring, play Star Ocean 2 instead

I'm sure you can download 4 or 5 different versions and then make another thread about which version to try

I already know I want to play the PS1 version of 2, but thanks for the recommendation. I'll take it into consideration.

Why didn't you text me, I could have told you the answer.

There's really only 2 versions of the game: the original SNES game and the PSP version. They redid the PSP version a few years ago on PS4, Switch, etc called Star Ocean: First Departure R. The only real change made was they reunited the vocal cast from the Super Famicom game.

IMO, it was a really lazy effort as not much was added. Star Ocean: Second Story R was my game of the year last year, though.

I never played Star Ocean, but I know in my heart Chrono Trigger and Lunar are better.

I didn't realize you played every version. Thanks for the info. I'll stick to the SNES version.

Definitely not going to be as good as Chrono. As good as Lunar though... It could be possible but unlikely.

Not as good as Chrono Trigger but, definitely less infuriating than Lunar. I enjoy it more than Lunar.

Always play the original first. If it wasn’t very good, then why did it get any sequels?

Star Ocean 1 and 2 on psp are great and look fantastic. Really a matter of opinion and which console you may have to play them on really.
