Hey guys, I'm in the market for some sort of storage device or mechanism that will allow me to play homebrew games, emulators available for the DS, and DS back-ups with ease and best compatibility. However, these seems to be so many solutions (and many knock-offs) that I don't know which to get or where to start looking first. So, I was wondering what everybody else here recommends and what they use?

Thanks for reading!

It only depends what u want.
Homebrew, backups, music play, movie play, cheats and that stuff all solutions got.
The R4 is outdated there are a lot other devices out there that are cheaper and better.

If you want a expensive but most features card get a cyclo ds ( has realtime save and cheats ).

If you want a cheap card there are many options.
Very popular are DS top toy, acekard 2, M3 real.
Others are Edge, Itouch & some others.
The edge is kinda like a cyclo ds clone but mostly missing only the realtime features. Good build quality.
The DSTT is very easy to use and very cheap. It has some flaws with build quality.
M3 real has build in GBA support ( other carts need to use homebrew first ) if you choose the perfect bundle. Build quality feels cheap but is ok. Menues are kinda slow.
Acekard2 also cheap card with very nice gui. Has open source support.

If you have some money to spend get a cyclo ds.
If you dont need all that stuff a cyclo has and want to get a cheaper card get Edge or acekard2.

So, all of these are the same in terms of compatibility? I thought that some supported download-play with some games and others didn't?

Also, where would you recommend buying one of these devices (I don't mind buying used if I have to)?

I think r4 and m3 real are userfriendly and i have not had a single problem with any of them(sold a few in the beginning they came out)But r4 is indeed quite pricey.

Hate to bump this but I just picked up an EDGE card from tha above website. I would like to get a GBA cart that works with it in my DS lite but also works im my sp or micro. Removable media would be a plus. Anyone know of any that are available and good. Thanks...

I have the EZ Flash V 3-in-1 (Rumble, Ram, and GBA functionality). Instead of removable media on the cart, I put the games on it through my slot one card. Once the games are on the cart I can play the games on any GBA.

I just used it to beat Aria of Sorrow :emb:

I am having problems with the cart insofar as only one game of three that I tried worked on the cart, but this might be because I need another program.

I've got an R4, I havent had a problem with it since. One of the Castlevania games stuffed up once but that wasnt really a problem. I think it has a lot to do with the Mirco SD card that is being used when it comes to reliability.

Well I just ordered the iTouch by M3. I have not tried it yet but for around $25 and lots of people say it works great.

I only use Sandisk or Kingston micro sd and have had no problems with any game.

I have the cycloDS and have been very happy with it. I have nothing to compare it against but the cycloDS is very simple to use and it has built in cheat codes for a wide variety of games. I've used the mp3 function and it works and sounds well. I downloaded slug7 to try it and initially it crashed, but I had not updated the firmware since I got it. Once I updated the firmware it worked beautifully. I have experienced no lag with any of the games that I've tried. I have only used a 4gb sdhc card in there and I believe it can use upto an 8 gb with firmware updates. If you can spring for it, I'd go with the cycloDS. Just my .02.

For what it's worth, my Cyclo DS has handled everything I've thrown at it. I like it a lot.

A few friends of mine have R4DS's and they like them, but I think the newer and better cards are making them obsolete, unless the R4's get cheaper.

It's sad that every time I've seen this thread bumped I read it as wanting to store a nintendo DS inside something.
And I end up reading and staving off my first impulse.

But, forget it.

If anyone else is thinking the same when this thread gets bumped, here goes.

A tackle box.

Not a small one either.

The DS in the top as it opens. Then stick the cases, manual and all in the base.

And not plastic either. Full out metal! The greater the amount of tin and superfluous weight, the better!

And the stylus can fold out and become a rod for trying to catch goldfish!

There--it's all out of my system now.
You may now go about your lives with minimal interruption.

i have an r4. maybe i'm really wealthy, but i didn't consider the $40 shipped including a 2gb memory card "pricey."

my first one didn't work at all, within a week i had a new one, which needs to be reseated now and then. overall, i'm very pleased... has allowed me to speed through the gobs and gobs of shovelware out there.

Which one would be the best to run TGM on the DS? I need something that's not pricey and good for DS homebrew.
