The first one I played was MK64 and it was fun racing against friends.

The rest of my MK playing has been on handhelds.

I did recently try the snes version. Without any fond bitd memories, it was pretty bad.

The original was awesome. These newer ones don't feel like the cars and gameplay are moving as fast.

As much as I have fond memories of Super Mario Kart, I gotta go with 8.

This, although I've enjoyed all of them (wasn't too crazy about the GBA one though need to play that again). I worked part time at a video game store around then and the owner was completely fine if we borrowed N64s and Mario Karts from the store, so we would hook up like three or four n64s to tvs and drink and play Mario Kart all night. I would rank mine (excluding the arcade ones that I've enjoyed but haven't played enough)

64
DD
7
Wii
8
DS
Super
Super Circuit

Besides these I've really enjoyed the Sonic Karting games a lot (maybe even more than the newest Mario Karts), the Crash Karting when it first came out, and Krazy Racers on GBA as well

Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed is better than Mario Kart 8. I recommend everyone play it, it's probably cheap by now.

Yes, both Sonic All Stars Racing games are good. Especially Transformed.

Sonic Drift 1 and 2 were meh

SonicR is unplayable without the NiGHTS controller

I may be the only guy out there who digs the Sonic Riders series

Not better than MK 8 but Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed is pretty great. I actually bought it for both the PS3 and Wii U plus own the Android version of it.

Super Mario Kart will never have a rival. It's the same thing to compare control in every Mario game, it feels like second nature but every game was quite different feel.

I have played loads of Battle Mode, we spent the better part of a day playing first to 100 wins (score counter stalls at 99) and once you get into it you see some crazy shit.

The SNES one is fun, but dated, racing games have benefitted greatly from 3D. MK8 is tops for me, but I can't say I've had a bad time with any of them.

SNES version was the only one where I had fun playing in the battle mode.

I would have to go with the snes version. Never owned a gc but have so many fun times with the snes version....especially battle mode....Loved the battle mode and the originality of the game (for the time). My daughter plays the wii version, but she still lacks the hand eye coordination and attention span for the game (and other video games in general) and it is hilarious. It's funny and frustrating to watch all at the same time her try and play the wii version. At any rate, the snes version is the original and the best.

STK trolling like a fool, no surprise there!

MK64 could be the best and deservingly so, a lot of people have fond memories of the game, just like MK SNES, another great game with fond memories. To me all the MK games are good, even the handheld ones, I just love the series but I don't take it seriously enough. I love the arcade one @ D&B, it's really cool!

MK64 and MK8 top the list for me. The original after those. Not that any of them are bad, just enjoyed the hell out of MK64!

I have to agree, I don't think I've even played battle mode since.

Also as has been discussed above I just purchased Sonic Racing for the second time on the Wii U (I have it on the 360) for $15 new just to play a friend of mine online, I have to cop out and say I enjoy MK and SAS racing equally and they are worth both a play through and both have great references to games from the past.

My heart will always choose the original SNES Mario Kart, then Mario Kart DS. Never cared for the rest.

Mario Kart DS was great because it felt like the original SNES version, but in 3D and with N64 style power-slide boosting.
Plus playing against 8 of your friends over wifi was pretty incredible for it's time. I have fond memories of going to Comic Con and sitting in a wifi pod with a ton of other people just connecting to random 8-player races. Probably one of my favourite stranger-gamer memories.

Battle Mode on MK64 is legit. I don't remember much of battle mode on SNES, though.

I agree, although I only really liked the two multilevel arenas. The donut and the rooftop were kind of meh.

MK64 is my favorite, but I like 8 a lot, too.

DS was utterly decimated by snaking.

I have not played all of them but SNES is definitely my Mario Kart of choice. I fucking mastered that game as a teenager. Bit sloppy these days but I'm still good enough to decimate noobs. My kids can beat me on the Wii though... :crying:

SNES one is probably the 'best', but MK64 is right up there with it. Both are such great games. DD is good too but it doesn't quite capture the magic of the previous games IMO. Overall though it's still great and I still play it.

Although I'm not a big fan of the N64 there are some games that always make me come back, with MK64 being one of them. After that I'd go with 8 which was also a really good one.

The original is the best. Anyone saying otherwise must have really sucked at the 1st one.

Nah, the level design was not as refined as the later titles. Remember those shitty bowser levels? Turn left right left right left right...
