Atomiswave - What do I need to get it running?

Okay, I'm fairly new to this type of setup and I was referred to the tech support forum to ask whatever questions I may have. I really have absolutely no idea what to do to get the Atomiswave system runnning in any way, shape, or form. I've seen the hardware for sale at various links posted, but the bits and pieces I've read regarding setup were too sketchy to understand. What exactly would I need to buy to get this thing running? I understand this may be a costly venture, but I'd really like to know what hardware would need to be purchased to get the thing operational.

Buy an MVS, it's a much better system than the Atomiswave.

Anyway, for an atomiswave you need a Jamma compatible arcade cabinet or supergun, an Atomiswave Board, and an atomiswave game board. Plug and Play, my friend.

By installing in the board all that is needed to make it run just like a console... Like a power supply, controller ports, etc. You shouldn't attempt to make this yourself if you don't have experience, but there's people who could do it for you.

I would highly recommend a SEGA Megalo 410 cab if you can find one in your area.

I've had my Megalo for about 2-3 yrs now and GGX v1.5 for Atomiswave since last year. I mainly got the AW in anticipation of future possible SNK titles, plus I'm not a big GGX fan so I didn't play the game much or tinker w/ the AW board.

With all the talk about AW recently, I decided to check if I was running it in high-res. For a while I assumed it was because the picture looked pretty sharp as-is. However, I finally got off my lazy ass, whipped out the AW manuals then checked the board. Sure enough it wasn't in high-res. So I flipped the switch, powered up the cab and wow!!! The difference in quality was like night and day. I've never seen a game look so good in my megalo.

Most other jamma games looked kinda "washed out" on it. I just wrote it off as a shortcoming of a projection based monitor. However now the picture quality rivals that of a CRT.

Beyond that the SEGA megalo has tons of features. I seem to find new things about it all the time. It also has built-in vga input jacks, support for multiple freq/resolutions, can't forget the huge 41" screen(!!), etc. Also, it even has a remote control for it! In addition, this thing is much easier to move than even a standard candy style cab. The wheels allow for effortless push and turning.

Oh yeah? Where did you get yours & how much did you shell out for it? Sounds intriguing :spock: .

I picked mine up locally from arcade-infinity for $1200. However nowadays you see them occasionally pop-up on ebay for $700-$900 + shipping.

Yes. 15k/24k/31K support

There is a 1 connector inside that cab that can be plugged into 1 of 2 sockets:

Socket 1: 24 kHz
Socket 2: 15/31 kHz

I just leave it plugged into the 15/31kHz socket and it automatically detects a 15 or 31 kHz signal.

I think it's only VGA since VGA hsync starts at around 31.5 kHz and SVGA operates at a higher freq depending on the resolution. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As for HD, I don't really know.

Basically my question is this, If I were to get one of these cabs, this SEGA Meglo 410 cab, and then purchase an Atomous WAVE system, would it work perfectly and display graphics perfectly? Such as the best picture available.

Here are shots I took a couple days ago of my AW board running at 31 kHz. My digi-cam kinda sucks, so the sharpness is lost in the pics.

Here's at shot at standard res. It's hard to tell the difference in the photos, but when you see it in real life it's more noticeable.

So basically, when set to 31 kHz on the AW motherboard you don't get any distorted and/or half images.

Okay, you were definately right. That cab, screen, and controller layout looks more than perfect for any and all Atomiswave needs I think I could ever have. Totally Awesome!
