Are the games in the NEO-GEO Online Collection for PS2 emulated or ported?

Just curious to know if the lazy route was taken in the collection?

I could be wrong, but I think Mark of the Wolves is the only game that was ported. The rest are emulated.

far as I know it goes like this

mark of the wolves = not arcade perfect but better than the dreamcast version
last blade 1 = good
last blade 2 = slowdown
art of fighting anthology = all great
fatal fury battle archive 1 = all great
fatal fury battle archive 2 = all great
world heroes anthology/gorgeous = all great
samurai shodown anthology USA = shit
samurai shodown anthology JPN = good (not positive on this)
kof orochi collection JPN = good
kof orochi collection USA = shit, KOF 98 added but overall emulation feels way off to me
fuun super combo = good i think but I don't have alot of neo experience in these games

I think all but motw are emulated, if that means anything. fatal fury battle archives 2 and later have training modes. They all have the awesome option of using the neogeo cd arranged soundtracks :) making them worth owning even if you have the mvs/aes versions. I left out games I donno shit about.

Hmm, arranged soundtrack is always a welcomed feature and shows at lease a bit of effort when emulating games.

Thanks

I've played the US version of Sam Sho Anthology, and the only fault I can find is that there is no SSVS. So why is it bad?

I thought I read the american version was like the american orochi collection in that it used a different and worse emulator, glad I am wrong if that's not the case.

Well I decided to take matters in my own hands by doing the old "try before you buy" thing that you do when you have a modchip in your PS2.

I downloaded the Orochi Saga and NEST Sage for JPN PS2 and gave it a go.

Indeed, the Orochi Saga runs emulated AES versions of KoF 95, 96 and 97 but does it very well (take it from a guy with over 10 years of emulation experience) and does allow you to have the arranged OST that you would have on NEO-GEO CD, Saturn and PSX.

The NEST Saga is even more interesting. It does offer you the same deal as the Orochi disc but the emulated AES games are in a sub-menu. The main menu offers you a Dreamcast '99 Evolution port as well as the PS2 version of 2000 and 2001 (I assumed it's the PS2 versions since their would be no porting involved but it could very well be the Dreamcast ones, not sure).

I can say with confidence that the Japanese Orochi Saga as well as the NEST Saga are both worth owning and I will probably swap my CMVS both NEO-GEO Collection Boxes as well as KoF 2002 (already got SVC Chaos, KoF '94 Re-Bout and 2003) for my NEO-GEO collection. This will be cheaper and less hassle for me.

Good to know all this. I got a region mod PS2 and it's not getting much use. So hard to pick games with access to most of the combined thousands of titles US/JP/EU PS1 and PS2 offers... :)
