Are dentist appointment time frames improving in your area yet?

I got my regular cleaning and annual Xrays today and the earliest they could do the next is December 21st, 8 months instead of 6, which was also the case for today's appointment when I made it last year too. There's still a shortage of qualified dental hygienists I presume. I haven't had any delays with medical appointments though, other than slight ones for holidays.

One generally doesn't pay to have things cleaned and x-rayed that don't exist.

I expect it depends on your dentist and geographic area. No one in my family has experienced any difficulty with their dentists. If there is a hygienist shortage, there is probably a patient shortage too.

Last year, making yesterday's appointment, they specifically told me it was due to their difficulty finding hygienists, but, they didn't say this time, nor did I ask. The employee pool continues to be pretty sparse around here in general (my employer still has difficulty filling positions too and hospital nurses often tell me the same).

As an aside, while I was sitting in the chair, waiting for my hygienist to get back from lunch to clean my teeth, down the hall, some woman was sobbing and crying, "Oh my God!" over and over again... doesn't do much for your piece of mind. 🤣
