I love AOF 2, it's one of my favorite games, but I've never been able to beat it. I've never even come close.

I'm ashamed of myself.

I've only beaten it with rounds set to 10 seconds, chipping until I get time up.

It's my favorite older NeoGeo game by the way. Anyone who hasn't played it thoroughly is missing out. It's a puzzle game in fighting form.

And that amazing SNK English dialogue, ohhh man. This game is cheezy in the best of ways.

I remember playing it when it first hit arcades. I kicked Mickey's ass right out of the gate, then on to the next round with Kisaragi. Brutal.....just absolutely brutal.

Best "campy" Neo Geo game of all time, imo. It's ridiculously easy, too, after you spend time with it to learn how to control the CPU. If you ever score a throw that's not tech'd by the computer, immediately throw a fireball and time it to land right as they get up (they will never block it). It will dizzy them every time. Recharge your ki, run forward, and throw them again. Keep in mind if they tech the throw it won't work. This trick is pretty universal, unless you're using Jack, who doesn't have a fireball (I never tried to hit with his dive kick instead - the character isn't fun to play as at all).

You just have to learn to make the CPU put itself in a position to be thrown all the time. This varies from person to person. Like, if I'm Ryo/Robert/Takuma/etc type character, I can do a standing fierce punch on Jack, who will almost always block it, and immediately retaliate with his air ass-press (which hits 3 times), or he does his dash punch. Block both, and throw him. I also know that if you get right in sweeping range of Yuri, you can throw out a fierce kick that she will block, and almost always follow it up with his ass attack that you can block and easily throw her afterward.

Like I said, it varies from character to character, but it can be done, and is pretty rewarding and fun, even only if it's to read the dialog. That's all I remember off the top of my head :( I really need to play this game again..

I think I'm going to try to knock the rust off of my Eiji tomorrow.

I have no doubt I'll be cussing at my TV within 10 minutes.

Man, this really makes me want to pickup another AES deck and rock it proper.

Other than the A.I. trying its hardest to ruin my childhood, the thing I remember most about the game was how stunning it looked for the time. HUUUUUUGE sprites.

I got to Geese the first time through just playing 1 round matches as that way you got no chance of winning a match with losing a round.
Beat him with Jack and Takuma by just constantly performing their special leg move, even without any charged energy it still connected to Geese face each time to knock him down.
Great game but I played it again recently and couldnt seem to get past round 1.

EDIT: The first time I played it, I thought it was Andy Bogard sitting at the Desk in the intro and not Geese.

Same here; I went back and played it last year after not having played it since I was a kid. I didn't remember it being that unforgiving.

I said the same thing about AOF1. Such a unique game. You can't play it like you would Street Fighter. And it's annoying at first, but once you figure out how to play it, man, it's great.

AOF2 is the same way, but I don't like hard puzzles, so I was all 'fuck that' and flipped the board over.

AOF3 was a disappointment because it wasn't a puzzle anymore, not like the previous two games.

Art of Fighting 1 isn't really a puzzle game. You can win that whole game with jump kicks.

Mr. Big is harder than Mr. Karate in AOF1. I played it on PS3 the other day and dude, I continued around 100 times I think.

Mr. Karate, just dash back, let him punch a few times, and when he does zanretsuken throw a haohshokoken at him (timing it so he won't dissolve it). He didn't take many continues.

I beat AOF2 in 1994 when it was one of the few AES titles we owned. I remember Temjin being as frustrating as hell initially , but like others here have said - once you learn the 'style' of the cpu its not so bad.

AOF1 is a lot easier than AOF2. For me, AOF1 is the best in the series - also the first NG game I ever played.

I just watched a walk-through of AOF2 on Youtube, although he/she was playing it on Level-1, making it so much easier. The CPU doesn't block as much yet maintains the same patterns. I use Ryo because of his strong leg sweep that always knocks over an opponent, allowing me to throw a projectile as they get up. It's a great series, with part 3 having some of the best animation in a 2D fighter.
