Any meaningful difference between the original US Saturn and the newer version?

I'm looking to buy a US Saturn, and I was wondering if there really is much of a difference between the original model with oval buttons and the newer model with round buttons. Is one more reliable than the other? Better performance? Faster drive?

Thanks <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

All I can say is that I have been using my round button Saturn (the second version) with no troubles for a very long time.

Unlike Sony, SEGA chose to build their 32 machines with parts that actually worked for more than a year. God bless SEGA R&D.

Well, I can say that the first generation controllers are different than the 2nd generation, hard to explain but they are very different....
I have an original US saturn and I also have the 2nd generation Japanese (white saturn) with a language switch and I couldn't really tell any difference between them... I'm assuming maybe minor improvements that don't really matter, but I do think that the CD player visual enhancement thing in the first one is a spaceship and in the 2nd version (in my Japanese one) is something else.... Not sure on that though... Haven't had any problems with my first generation US one (which is what I play on--language switch is finnicky on the other)

Get the 2nd version..
The pad is much better (especially for fighting games)

BTW, I think Saturn pad(the Japanese version or US 2nd version) is the best pad ever made, it's really a dream pad for fighting games. The D-pad is very responsive and the other buttons are well-placed.

Trust me.. 2nd version is way better than the original
