I have a preorder unit RP4+, and it finally happened. R2 spring broke. 😭 They're sending me another backplate but I didn't wanna wait 3 weeks to play with it. So I grabbed some dual shock 4 springs and after cussing for the better part of an hour it's fixed. I cannot believe how dinky the springs were when I got em out. Like threads made of aluminum. Lol China

But at least I have a spare backplate in the mail. But God, what a PITA

I had a chance to play a lot of RG Cube the last few days, and the d-pad is, simply put, not great. I don't really play many games requiring an analog stick, so if the d-pad sucks, I'm out. Can anyone recommend a 4:3 handheld with horizontal orientation (e.g. 40xx) whose d-pad isn't completely jacked with false diagonals? The bigger the screen, the better. Mainly interested in GB, GBC, MVS, NGPC, MAME.

Disappointing because Anbernic's cross-shaped d-pads feel pretty good to me.

I've held off on getting a new handheld for a while now (most recent purchase was the Retroid 2+). Instead of getting something I'm sure I would have liked (353m, etc.) I got dogshit at a discount and ordered an M18 listed at $47.

Look at this design. That's a 4.3" 3:2 screen. I don't think there's a CFW yet.

Yeah, this is specifically why I stick to Anbernics for these cheap emu devices. The dpads are always pretty good, if not great.
I gotta disagree on this one. Maybe we're playing different games, but for shmups, run n guns and any 4-way 80's arcade game, the Anbernic dpad sucks.

Maybe we're using different handhelds? The ones I've used:

RG351P: Decent dpad, ergonomics otherwise didn't really work for me
RG35XX: Really nice dpad
RG35XX SP: It's a little too stiff but fantastic. If the stiffness was fixed it would be S tier.

That said, I judge them a bit on a sliding scale. Nothing is as good as like a Saturn pad or the better first party Nintendo dpads. This is more like comparing third party controllers that your little brother has to use because fuck him. And most of the other emu handhelds I've tried had controls that were literal garbage.

Really tempted to grab an SP just for GBA

My overall impressions are in line with what others have said.

The form is surprisingly ergonomic and the buttons feel good.

The d-pad feels somewhat stiff and shallow, but I might need to spend more time with it.

The stock software is not good and there’s no custom firmware yet, although people are working on it. You’ll want to download tweaked configuration files to fix the aspect ratios on games, expand supported systems, and improve performance. (N64 runs poorly without the tweaks).

For some reason, sd cards over 128gb are not currently supported.

It is a decent psp! Speed isn’t bad and the screen is right for it. I’d pass unless you were mostly looking for a cheap PSP emulator with ergonomic grips on the back.

Not entirely sure why - but just visually that thing grosses me out so much lol

AYANEO already use Snapdragon® G3x Gen 2 on it's recent & luxury handheld Pocket S.
1080P edition, but with 16/9 screen ~ $559 (Retail Price) or $479 on IGG.
Spoiler:

I really cross my fingers for a maximum of $400, or lower for IGG crowdfunding, no more.

I'm now running the M18 off of M25 software on a 128gb Silicon Power card (Sandisk doesn't work.) Apparently they built these things around surplus PSP screens, which explains the size and resolution.

While I wait for a proper CFW to come out for the M18, I made another cheap bastard move and ordered the RGB30, since the screen seems much more versatile and it will at least run ArkOS.

Yeah, the rgb30 is a lot better for most use cases and a better value overall. Get a load of how huge the M18 is. Now that I put them side by side, the colors on the m18 are also a little cooler than I'd like (another thing that cfw might help to solve.)
