People also cried wolf about it eating GB labels (or was it GBA? whatever...). The thing is the area on the cartridge where the label goes is indented - it sits BELOW the height of the rest of the cartridge, so it's literally impossible for it to peel off a label which sits safely below the surrounding plastic area.
...unless that label is already peeling. Which at that point it doesn't take a genius to see that the peeling label (which is now sticking out further than that indented area, and farther out than the plastic of the rest of the cartridge) could get caught.
Game Gear cartridges/labels are also designed this same way too.
