You are correct sir, and a fine shooter it is! Unfortunatly, Compile is no longer around. They game us some of the finest shooters around, and it's a shame we'll never see another Aleste or Spriggan game again. :crying:

That's a shame,as both Spriggan and Aleste are amongst my fav shmups of all time..:(

As for Zanac Neo,I am enjoying the heck out of it as we speak :)

Special thanks goes to UFO over at the Shmups Forum for hooking me up with an awesome trade.

Forgive my stupidity..........

This version automatically continues for you after the 3 lives are lost, and puts your score back to 0. I better try it in mame, it happens automatically so there's no way to stop to inspect my score at 3 lost lives :crying:

Well, I have 150k after the first stage, or let's say during the 1st half of 2nd stage.

Don't forget to collect all gold you can find, and try to kill the larger enemy ships/bosses with your standard/special shot instead of using bombs. I only use them against bosses, and only if I'm about to die.

There are different types of gold, the shiny ones will give you more points, and iirc, it also depends on how you destroy a target which types you will get but I'm not sure about this.

Oh yeah, and if you have a full bomb stock, every bomb you collect will give you lots of bonus points, another reason to keep them as long as possible. Same goes for the standard shot.

What's more, it's important WHEN you start loosing all your ships. If you lose them spread all across the five levels, your point average decreases due to missed full-bomb/shot scoring opportunities, etc. I can make it to 1-6 without dying most of the time, but then the fun begins...

- edit: just read your last post... auto continues suck... perhaps there's a setting you can adjust in the options menu, set it to 0 continues or something. Thankfully, the PSX version I've been playing does not have that "feature".

you cant reach level 1-5 and have only 150000 pts

its impossible

unless you never shoot and wait for ages until the bosses self-destruct themselves

:spock:

ah...

one thing about strikers and psikyo games in general...

DO NOT pick up more than 2 - 3 power ups,
unless you are the incarnation of the shooters god or something...

every extra power up means difficult goes up of 1

you have been warned :)

takumaji, did you finally get to see the inp ?

Yeah cant believe I hadnt noticed until now, ive never tried to play it competitivly, its the first thing thats harmed by enjoyment of the double pack.

I'd assumed it was exactly as the PSOne version, bar the music turned up. Guess they fucked around with it a little more, there's no option to change it, options are as is in the PSOne version :crying:

Cool tip, guess I've paid my score with difficulty increase then... heh

Did you get my reply? I've sent it a couple of hours after I got your mail and according to my mail client, your provider's server accepted it... perhaps it's in your spam folder or something, happened a few times with my work account...

I got the inp, and many thanks for the info.. but there must be something wrong with either the wolfmame setup or the inp, I only see Hayate getting selected, the game starts, you loose all your ships in the first level, end up with about 16k score and input "bcd" in the hiscore list, afterwards the game goes back cycling through attract mode again.

Perhaps you've sent me the wrong one, or am I just stupid?

For now, please use my alternate email account, guess there's a prob with my mediatrends address since I've got several complaints during the last week...: tak_snk@yahoo.de

I know it's old hat for you hardcore import regulars in this thread, but I just got my greasy hands on Gradius V today, and my God...what a fucking masterpiece.

I knew there was a reason I'd just drool at it at E3 but not actually play it. I wanted my first time with it to be special, and hot damn is it. I haven't been this stoked about a new game in my posession in a really long time. The game gives me mixed feelings though. This is the kind of game I expected a hell of a lot more of by this time in our collective gaming future...of course, the shmup genre has really withered on the vine by now...but it's awesome to see such a homecoming of sorts for the awesome talent at Treasure returning to revive one of the most hallowed franchises in all of gaming. There still really is nothing like a really well programmed Japanese title from an elite developer that you know is pushing the hardware and giving you an amazing experience. The music is drop-dead awesome, the play control is PERFECT, the level layouts and frenetic action is awesome.

It isn't that I didn't enjoy R-Type Final...but this game is the kind of bad-ass, one-against-the-galaxy ride I've been missing for a really long time. Thanks so much Treasure and Konami...and hey, can you guys whip up a real Alien Wars sequel while you're on fire? I'd appreciate it....

A thirty-dollar hole in my pocket never felt so good...

BTW, Zanac Neo is the fucking bomb...an amazing (if unfortunately final) effort from the now-deceased Compile. If anyone out there would rip the tracks off it for me, I'd be eternally grateful......anyone? :eye: :eye:

Sega announced they will release the arcade 2D vertical shooter Chaos Field for both GameCube and Dreamcast in Japan. The Dreamcast version will be released in December, while the GameCube version will be released in February 2005.

BBH strikes again with a cool hiscore... edited the list accordingly. 2/2... that's amazing.

Keep it coming, folks.

I've watched all the vids now. It definitely looks interesting, and very Radiant Silvergun inspired. The colours look kinda boring, but if everything else is good I think we might be looking at something special.

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up Zanac X Zanac when it was released. If anybody has a copy they would be willing to part with LMK.

Slightly upped my Strikers score, hiscore table has been updated. NOT collecting powerups seems to help, but dodging them can be difficult... funny, if you need them, they always fly away from you... fuckers...
