So what kind of shmups do you all prefer:

•Military Type a la Strikers, 14xx series, Sonic Wings etc

•Spaceship Alien Type ala Pulstar, Blazing Star, Gradius, Last Resort, and R-Type

•Gimmicky a la Gunbird, ESPGaluda, Shikigami series

I slightly prefer military-type and space shmups, but I also have mad fun with some gimmickry games like Gunbird 2, Galuda, etc. If it's good/interesting to play, I'm game.

However, I really miss the satirical approach of games like Metal Slug - imagine a vertical Metal Slug-themed shmup complete with exchangeable "flying slugs" and everything the horizontal action platformers had, only vertical, and in air! The first half of Slug 3's mission 5 comes close to that, but it's too short. Ah well... a man can dream, can he...

Typically, I prefer the spaceship-alien type of thing. But I'll play anything that's interesting - case in point, I hate the style of ESPGaluda (bad club-ish tunes + flying pink haired psychics + pastel scheme = bzzzzt), but gameplay-wise (bullet patterns, scoring, enemy variety), it's terrific.

Post 1,000 in the shooter thread.

Now if only I could get the Pro Gear rom working on a Mac.....

Strikers 1945 II works great with Bleemcast

It's about 85-90%

no slowdown, very few graphical glitches (the boss of 1-3 looks like a brown rubix cube), and some sound crackle. Works a lot better than Tobal 2 did.
