I've been completely out of the loop for the last 8 months, and am finally settled in with my new life. I need something to watch. What 'can't miss' stuff has hit since last March?
I don't remember the release dates, but I can tell you the shows I've thoroughly enjoyed in the last 12 months or so.
R.O.D. the TV- great animation, great story, great characters. I anticipated the release of each disc, which is a rarity.
FMP!? Fumoffu- It's Full Metal Panic, so what's not to like? I guess if you don't like FMP you won't like this. Just remember this one is more about comedy than it is the military action. FMP! The Second Raid began and finished this year in Japan. I'd expect ADV to announce it's license and HOPEFULLY get it out once the last R2 disc is released (February I think).
Midori Days- it's a love comedy, thing. Midori wishes to be with her crush, Seiji who is basically a bully with a heart. So what happens? She becomes his right hand! They keep away from the majority of the humor you'd expect from something along those lines and it was a really enjoyable show.
Elfen Lied- of the 2 "controversial" shows ADV is releasing (this and Gantz), this one is by and far my favorite of the 2. The animation is OK. The story goes that their are mutants being born with the ability to destroy the human race. A secret organization is killing them on birth or keeping them locked in their facility in hopes of using them as weapons. One gets away. Turns out she has 2 personalities, that of a cold blooded killer and that of a child. She gets picked up, naked on the beach, by someone who is connected to her past and then it all plays out.
Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars-
The website can probably describe it much better than I can. The show is one of those shows that are sleeper hits. People that take the chance with it really enjoy it. If the giant mecha isn't your thing, well all I can say is that it definitely isn't the focus.
Samurai Champloo- I'm sure you've read about this one before. Samurai Anime by the guy who did Cowboy Bebop. It's shitload of fun to watch and is really well animated. One person I know who doesn't like Samurai stuff, enjoyed this.
Of the series above the following are out completely: ROD, Elfen Lied, Fumoffu, Midori Days
Shingu will be finished in a couple of days when the 5th disc is released.
Champloo finishes in January (and has an AWESOME DTS track on it).
