In my opinion this kind of post and disposition isn't welcome in this thread.

You're well aware that the thread's first post was about watching Samurai Champloo fansubs of course...?

DTS audio on the R1 DVDs is fucking SWEET as all hell too. You should get it that way instead. ;)

I havent been watching much other than Gilgamesh over the past few days.
I saw the trailer on a couple DVDs and promptly decided... I wasn't bothering. The style did nothing for me. It just seemed to scream... "meh" at the top of it's lungs.

Oh yeah, I got an email from ADV last night in regards to Gencon in Socal. There were a couple lines that had me chuckling:

"ADV, the #1 producer-distributor of Anime in North America..."

If this is true, the Anime world is headed for Hell in a hand basket. ADV is a company still grappling with the losses they apparently incurred when they went balls to the wall and started licensing everything and anything they could get their hands on. The quick thin pack boxes are proof, IMO, that they are doing whatever they can to bolster their sales for the year, despite fucking the industry in the long run.

"Please join us for our always insightful question and answer session..."

The panel I attended was big on fluff and low on content. It was more about "what ridiculous thing can someone wave around to get attention" than it was about intelligent questions with good answers.

Hell, they lied to us about Steel Angel Kurumi's Manga, as they claimed they had caught up with it and were waiting for more. Considering book 10 was out in JPN when our last book was released (book 9), and both 10 AND 11 were out in JPN as of Otakon, the answer stunk of "do what we can to get them off our backs."

Of all the Anime companies, ADV is the shiftiest of them all IMO. If I had to pick a company "most likely to frisk you for money before performing CPR," it'd be ADV.

I'd just frisk you. I wouldn't bother with the CPR at all.

And then I'd make holes in you like ED-209 did to the guy at the beginning of Robocop. The nasty version where ED-209 also does the legs while the guy's lying on top of the Delta City model.

My point was that ADV wants to make believe they aren't just after your money, so they'd have to perform the CPR service for you, assuming you had some cash on you.

I'd also frisk someone for money and forego the CPR. I might kick them a time or 2 to try and help, then I'd leave.

To be honest, that was my opinion when I saw the trailers too.
But I was making a huge DVDpacific order a while back and needed to bulk it up - so it was either this or some generic mech/cyborg/harem/whatever show.
And my anime collection is kinda low in the 'perpetually-miserable-goth-kids' genre so.......

I finished Mospeada this morning. It wasn't bad, but definitely was far from great. The animation has many, many moments of choppiness and awkward moments. The other problem, which is worse in Robotech's Master's section (which this made up), was that there are holes in the story left and right. Like Stig will say he's gonna go do something, and next thing you know he's in the thick of a battle in the place he said he was going not 2 minutes ago, without any part of his journey getting their showing up. I understand it's old, so I can accept some of it to an extent, but this show just furthers my opinion that Macross is the superior series of the 3 that made up Robotech. At least it didn't have crappy animation and a "jumpy" story.

I also finished up Star Ocean EX by watching disc 6. I actually enjoyed the series. It wasn't super spectacular, but it had a good story and decent animation. The ending, while an ending of sorts, doesn't end the series, just as Now Loading was thinking. ***SPOILER***If the first disc ends with the destruction of the sorcery globe, and a portal opening to the world where the party needs to go to REALLY defeat the bad guys, then this is where the TV series ended. Kinda sucks, but at least I know I can end it if I purchase the PS1 game at some point.

70 more discs in my pile, with 7 more on the way. I have Godannar disc 2 on the way and haven't even watched the first disc (on R1 anyway).

That's exactly where the first disc ends. I heard the drama CDs actually continue the EX story onto disc 2, but you'd probably have more fun just playing the game.

As soon as I have a way to play it anyway.

As far as the thread, I figure if someone mentions they just watched the show, and not the how, then whatever. Now if they are posting links to torrents and shit, well, that's something different.

I don't like people downloading stuff that's available on R1 DVD, but there's nothing I can do to stop them, so why should we prevent them from talking about it?

Buster has said he's bought series he likes before, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he'll do the same with Champloo some time.

buster broon is the only one that's not calm around here. I was just saying that I think it's fucking retarded to scream that you're pirating the shit some of us are paying out of our asses for, essentially making sure you can keep getting new shows to DL on teh torrentz 4 free.

Where the fuck did you read that?

Fansubs of shows that are released in English speaking countries are certainly NOT okay, according to this thread (and the law, you know). That's been said SEVERAL times.

It doesn't bother me when it's unlicensed. Just pick it up if/when it's licensed.

i'm fine btw - perfectly calm - getting to watch tons of anime

but i guess you've never ever:
watched a pirated movie
played emu's
copied something from the tv and kept it for longer than 24hours
watched a movie over at somebody elses house (broadcasting rights)

so what you are saying is you're whiter than white

Where the fuck did you read that?

i told slerch666 that i watched fansubs and i have about 15 anime dvd's with some special editions (complete ninja scroll for eg)

and he said post 2173 - infact reading thru this entire thread you are the only bitch thats bitching about it - what gives???

now slerch seems like a level headed fellow who buys a bucket loads of anime - he has no problem with it

do you work for the ALC or something 'American licensing commitee' or something

I finally got my copy of the collection and to my dissapointment it just ends with no resolution and t really dosnt seem like a finale episode. Iam hopping there are another 12 episodes somewhere. This is a great little comedy romance series thats fun for wide arrary of ages.

@Buster_Broon glad to see you posting in the thread ;) good to have more people to talk about anime with

No second season. The Manga carries on longer however.

I wish they would put a second season of it out.

Thankfully CPM is supposed to be picking up it's release again. They stopped after book 4, I believe due to some restructuring and prioritizing. There priority was to make money. LOL

Not on purpose. ;)

played emu's
Almost exclusively things I already own, though that's still illegal. ;)

copied something from the tv and kept it for longer than 24hours
Fair use dictates we CAN do that, as over the air TV signals (whther brought in via a regular antenna or through cable)

watched a movie over at somebody elses house (broadcasting rights)
Only counts if you are doing so in a public fashion, say inviting your entire neighborhood over.

Just keep in mind I don't "own" the thread, even if I probably have the most posts in it. I don't care how you watch, as long as you don't publicize it, which you haven't. Saying you watched Champloo is fine, and since you didn't specify HOW, I just give the benefit of the doubt and assume you bought it. ;)

I used to be VERY vocal against fansubs. After a while, I got tired of trying to talk logic to people who could only see the cost saving benefits it has towards them, not the negative impact on the bottom line a show receives, which can sometimes make or break whether a sequel is made or a series continues.

Keep in mind this argument was reserved for those that watched a show fansubbed and kept it with the intention of watching again, even though a legitamate and not all that expensive version (going by R1 vs R2 prices) available. Those that use it to see if a show is good I don't have a problem with. Those that do it as a way to not have to purchase something can go suck a slimy cum covered donkey cock.

now slerch seems like a level headed fellow who buys a bucket loads of anime - he has no problem with it
Getting angry about it solves nothing. It's like trying to change someone's opinion of something. Unless their grasp on their opinion is tenuous at best, then that opinion isn't changing, no matter how many pebbles, rocks, stones or boulders you lob at it. It's more fun to have a CONVERSATION than an argument, though not everyone always seems to agree with that.

This is an annoying post, but I went through the last 10 pages before asking, so give me some credit.

I've been completely out of the loop for the last 8 months, and am finally settled in with my new life. I need something to watch. What 'can't miss' stuff has hit since last March? I'm keeping up with Maison Ikkoku, Hajime no Ippo, and Jubei-chan, but other than that...

I don't remember the release dates, but I can tell you the shows I've thoroughly enjoyed in the last 12 months or so.

R.O.D. the TV- great animation, great story, great characters. I anticipated the release of each disc, which is a rarity.

FMP!? Fumoffu- It's Full Metal Panic, so what's not to like? I guess if you don't like FMP you won't like this. Just remember this one is more about comedy than it is the military action. FMP! The Second Raid began and finished this year in Japan. I'd expect ADV to announce it's license and HOPEFULLY get it out once the last R2 disc is released (February I think).

Midori Days- it's a love comedy, thing. Midori wishes to be with her crush, Seiji who is basically a bully with a heart. So what happens? She becomes his right hand! They keep away from the majority of the humor you'd expect from something along those lines and it was a really enjoyable show.

Elfen Lied- of the 2 "controversial" shows ADV is releasing (this and Gantz), this one is by and far my favorite of the 2. The animation is OK. The story goes that their are mutants being born with the ability to destroy the human race. A secret organization is killing them on birth or keeping them locked in their facility in hopes of using them as weapons. One gets away. Turns out she has 2 personalities, that of a cold blooded killer and that of a child. She gets picked up, naked on the beach, by someone who is connected to her past and then it all plays out.

Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars- The website can probably describe it much better than I can. The show is one of those shows that are sleeper hits. People that take the chance with it really enjoy it. If the giant mecha isn't your thing, well all I can say is that it definitely isn't the focus.

Samurai Champloo- I'm sure you've read about this one before. Samurai Anime by the guy who did Cowboy Bebop. It's shitload of fun to watch and is really well animated. One person I know who doesn't like Samurai stuff, enjoyed this.

Of the series above the following are out completely: ROD, Elfen Lied, Fumoffu, Midori Days

Shingu will be finished in a couple of days when the 5th disc is released.

Champloo finishes in January (and has an AWESOME DTS track on it).
