I guess I should be happy it's coming out on R1 at all.

My main complaint is that it's more than 6 months away :p

Last night I watched the 2nd disc of The Melody of Oblivion. Kobayashi Sanae shows up as the next Warrior, which was pretty cool. The problem is that the show still feels like it's rather slow in telling it's story. The other problem is the lack of animation bothers me. The music is good, however.

This morning I began watching Virus Buster Serge. THe best I can say about this one is... at least I didn't pay much for it. Anyone thinking of checking it out, do yourself a favor and... don't bother. It's boring. Character designs are meh. It's the typical Manga licensed action show, except it's not good like Guyver. I'm not even going to bother describing it, just don't anyone bother with it.

In the mail today I received Urusei Yatsura Box 9. So I've watched UY DVDs 41 and 42, with 43 and at least 44 (45 if I can stay awake) being watched as well. The show is so whacky that it doesn't bother me in the slightest to watch 20 eps in a day (Assuming I pull it off). This is a great series, and even though it's long as shit like Inu Yasha, this one doesn't have a real background story for something that holds the show together. What I mean is, you don't have an over reaching plot to bind it all together. It's more like a GI Joe in that every eps is a self contained story, the only things that carry over most times are the characters. DAMN good stuff, definitely worth buying. Singles won't be available for some time, but you can get the box direct from Animeigo right now for $112.50 shipped.

Watched a few things so far today.

First was UY TV 44 and 45. I went to bed last night a little earlier than expected, and thanks to the 1 hr time difference, I woke up an hour earlier, so I had more time to watch stuff. Less than 24 hours to finish this UY box, gotta say that's a record. Of course, I usually get them during the week which generally means the most I can get through, what with work and all that, 2 or so discs a night. Anyway, it was good stuff.

I then had a box of goodies from CD Japan show up. In that was Sakura Taisen: The Movie Limited Edition. Other than the lack of subtitles on the R2 and a few missing extras on the R1, the video quality is basically the same. I have to say I like the R1 menus better. There are 2 extras you don't get on the R1 DVD. First up is a commercial where you can watch a promo with either the song performed at the beginning of the movie playing (Kiseki no Kane movie versions)or you can watch it using the Gekitei! (the ST theme for the Hanagumi). On the R1 you can only watch it with the Kiseki no Kane if I'm not mistaken. The other part the left out on the R1 is the comparison of the Subete no Umi he (the track performed at the end of the film during the Kaijin Bessou play) from the film and the version performed in... '96 or '98 by the Hanagumi (the live play version). I'm guessing licesing it may have been difficult and expensive, but what do I know?

I stand by my original statements on the movie, that being that the ones who will really enjoy the film are those with a decent background with the Hanagumi/Sakura Taisen world. Good stuff.

Also in the box was Mazinkaiser: Shitou! Ankoku Daishogun (Mazinkaiser: Die! Ankoku Daishogun, or perhaps Death! Ankoku Daishogun?). This was the final OVA made for the Mazinkaiser property in 2003. It's actually more like one of the Mazinger movies from the 70s, as it's a self contained story that runs all 55 minutes.

The story goes that Kabuto Kouji and Sayaka are enjoying some well deserved R&R. While traveling in Paris, they are attacked by Ankoku Daishogun. They return to Japan and fight them off.

I'm not sure if anyone else has seen this, since ADV didn't license it with the originals, so I don't want to give too much away. The Mikene are the bad guys, basically they are the race trying to destroy humanity. You hear about them in the Mazinger/Great Mazinger series, but mention in the Mazinkaiser stuff was rather lacking. Gorgon Taikou was the enemy at the end of Mazinger and whom was the villian for part of Great Mazinger. One thing they all had in common was Ankoku Daishogun. He was the plotter behind Dr. Hell, Baron Asura, Gorgon Taikou and so on.

In fact, I believe this is more of a remake of one of the original movies, though I've unfortunately not seen them all. That'll be my next Mazinger score, the movie box set.

**spoilers** When watching the Ankoku Daishogun OVA, in the scene where Jun is attacked, I thought the killed her. I was SSOOOO damn close to turning the show off right then and there! She didn't die though, so I finished it. ;)

I'm too lazy to make subs from the fansub I downloaded, so I still haven't watched that last Mazinkaiser OVA.

And yeah, it's a remake of one of those old movies.

In the box today I also received, and of course, watched Tsukuyomi vol. 10 R2 (w/ LE CD). Fuck me if they didn't leave this off at one hell of a cliff hanger! BASTARDS! Downloading fansubs is tempting, but I'll wait. Gives me some of the crazy anticipation lacking from several of the shows I've been watching lately.

For Fox1, all I can say is, the watermelon seeds had me laughing, as did what happens when Kouhei falls off the cliff/mountain side. :D

They changed the ending on these 2 eps as well. One has Kaoru and Hikaru, while the other is another cute bit involving Hazuki. I'm not really sure which ending is the "new" ending, so if Fox1 wants to answer, I'd like the answer. ;) Or do they change the ending on all the last eps?

Also in the box was Sousei no Aquarion 4 and Tsubasa Chronicle 3. I'll get around to those tomorrow or Tuesday. I think Elfen Lied 4 should be here tomorrow, along with Ah! My Goddess DTS R1, so those will be watched tomorrow evening if they do in fact show up.

That may be it for Anime tonight. I feel a Sakura Taisen Kayou Show calling, and as they are all ~3 hours long, that means not much time left before beddy by, so probably no more Anime today.

There are 13 episodes, and an OVA episode. The OVA episode didn't make it on to any of the R1 DVDs as it was created after ADV had licensed it. I'm guessing they'll license it at some point, as EL is supposedly popular.

And yeah, that's the show! ;)

So, as I thought, I had a big box o' stuff show up today.

In the box was Ah! My Goddess The Movie Japanese DTS. It's not often, or generally ever, you hear these words come from my mouth when speaking of something that concerns the Ah! My Goddess property... this release is SEVERELY disappointing.

Before going into detail, let me temper all this and say that if you haven not purchased or don't own the AMG movie on DVD and are looking for a copy (can't recommend it enough), then you can't really go wrong with the DTS version, assuming you want less pretty packaging and want Japanese DTS 5.1 sound (no upgrade to the English DD 5.1 mix). If you want pretty packaging with stereo as well as 5.1 mixes, pick up the original release.

Why am I disappointed? Well, originally the AMG movie was released right at the ass end of the "hard subbed sign translation" era. There are 2 scenes in the film that Pioneer, now Geneon, have hard coded sign translations on. You say "but it's only 2 places!" Yes, that is correct. I am that anal, it's true, however, that's not my only complaint, so keep reading.

Next up is the DTS track. The R2 DTS is the FULL bitrate DTS track, 1.5 mbps. What are we handed here? Why, the half rate DTS track, of course (768 kbps)! Why would Geneon go and give us a release that mirrors the Japanese when they can just half ass it and sell it as something new?

Next there is the subtitle timing. Anyone that's watched the 5.1 mix on the original version will tell you there are 3 spots on the subtitles that, thanks to it being timed to the stereo mix, the subtitles appear after someone has completed a sentence. Annoying. This was present on the original, and also present here.

Then you have the packaging. The cover art is new, but the back is not. What's funny is the cover is double sided, yet Geneon put the fucking disc in an opaque white case, so what was the point? Double sided in that it has the same picture of Belldandy on it that the DD release had, not a reversible cover. Pointless and ridiculous.

Basically all Geneon has done is taken the original DVD release and remuxed Japanese DTS 5.1 audio to it. They also changed the audio menu to reflect the DD 5.1 English/Japanese or Japanese DTS 5.1 mixes, as there are no stereo mixes on this disc as there were on the original release.

So what's the MSRP on what is basically a rerelease? Well, if you thought "hey, it's a rerelease, it's gotta be cheaper!" you'd be WRONG. MSRP on both this and the original is $29.99.

What Geneon has done in order to get stores to start purchasing the release again for their shelves is they've reversioned it to look like something new. I understand the practice, but generally a rerelease gets a price reduction as well. Because they have the "New Japanese 5.1 DTS Version" attached to it, people will think it's something it isn't.

The video quality is exactly the same as the original. The DD audio is exactly the same as the original. The DTS is 1/2 rate DTS. The packaging is a bit lamer.

I never thought I'd say I am disappointed with anything AMG, but I suppose there are some things even hard core AMG fans like me can't accept. As I said over at AOD.com, if Geneon was going to make a 1/2 assed attempt, then I should be asked to fork over 1/2 the MSRP for it.

Had the disc been $10 instead of $18, I'd have been more forgiving. It wasn't however, and it has me pretty pissed. I sent an angry email to TRSI since they are Geneon's customer service. I'm a customer and I'm severely disatisfied with their product.

One bright side, however, is that they didn't fuck the audio up on this one like they did Appleseed DTS.

So I watched Elfen Lied vol. 4 last night as well. This is the concluding volume, and even though it was something I probably shouldn't have enjoyed considering my tastes, I enjoyed it a lot from start to finish.

I love Kabayashi Sanae, so that probably helps.

With the way it ends (spoiler free), I can't say as though it surprised me all that much. With the way it end ends (you'll see what I mean), they leave a lot of it open for interpretation.

Mariko would be the queen of all Loli's if she wasn't such a bad ass bitch.

Since I know there are others out there waiting to see the end of this one, I'm cutting my discussion short. Hopefully we can talk about it once more people have seen the entire thing. ;)

So I've taken a few days leave from watching Anime to take in Hero and House of Flying Daggers, but returned to it today.

Not Anime, but related, I watched the Kekko Kamen Returns movie from Media Blasters. Good GOD is this movie SSOOOO damn campy... it's GREAT! I love these films. They don't take themselves seriously AT ALL and the craptastic acting makes it that much better. Seeing a naked super heroine helps. I definitely recommend this one to anyone who is a fan of campy B movies. I had TONS of laughs on this one, as it so damn unbelievable.

Next I started in on the last 8 discs of the Kaleido Star R2 box I got. I've only gotten into 2 eps, and unfortunately they are recap eps. The real show starts after this.

For some reason I get all emotional watching this show. For some reason it just "clicks" with me and I thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. I just had the thin pack box from ADV show up today from DeepDiscountDVD. It's going to be a X-Mas present for my niece. I don't feel bad giving her the stripped down version since there wasn't much by way of extras on the original set (nor the R2s).

Since you can find the entire first season for $30 on-line, I can't recommend people try this series enough. And if you don't like it, put it up an eBay and you'll likely make most of your money back.

If anyone takes me up on the offer and completely hates the series after watching at LEAST 8 episodes, I'll PayPal you $1.

1) My offer lasts through November 20

2) if you tell me you don't like it, you have to provide a full review and describe in detail why you don't like it, otherwise no dollar for you. Also give details of the eps you watched so I know you tried it.

3) I don't want people lying to me and telling me they bought it, then just saying "it sucked, give me a dollar, fucker." You have to work for your $1.

4) provide pics of the box and a sign specified by me so I know you bought it or have it in your possession

5) only thread regulars can enter

6) no duplicate entries

7) I reserve the right to cancel the offer at any time

Do you really talk the same way you use punctuation marks? That would seriously sound weird...

The reason you won't find the Slayers Next set is that FUNimation has bought the rights to release remastered versions of all Slayers TV seasons. When CPM's boxes are gone, they're gone, because they don't have the rights to print more.

Like Kristian Meller said, it's OOP. FUNi is supposedly remastering and rereleasing it next year sometime (that's all of Slayer's not just Try ;)).

In the mean time, you can find it pretty cheap out there. Half has new and used copies listed for dirt ass cheap.

They are selling the Slayers: Movie Box (Thinpak) for only $44.98 at www.rightstuf.com but their are no Slayers DVD box set, Slayers Next DVD box set or Slayers Try box set though. :(

I only own these on VHS,

Slayers: The Motion Picture
Slayers vol.#1
Slayers vol.#2

I haven't seen every episode yet but I want to buy all of the Slayers anime TV series and the Slayers anime movies. Lina Inverse makes me laugh. :tickled:

Why isn't Naga in the anime TV series?. Naga said in the motion picture "Last one in is a rotten Dragon Ball" :tickled:

When it's that time of the month all the Sorceresses lose their powers. :kekeke:

The movies are all pre-TV series (they came out after the movie but the timeline looks like all the movies come before the TV). If I remember correctly, Naga was made just for the movies (not 100% on that one) and the people in the Manga are the ones who were animated in the TV series.

Yesterday I recieved my huge-ass (well, 14 items) order from DVDpacific, and the first thing I watched was Ghost Stories #1
Fucking awesome show, and a much better effort from Steven Foster than Milk-Chan.
Whereas Milk-Chan's rewritten jokes were more 'miss' than 'hit' to me, and the live-action sections wernt really that great which ment getting through a full 90-minute show became a bit of a struggle - Ghost Stories keeps things simple with some low-brow (but nonetheless funny) humour, a couple ADV in-jokes and the few American cultural references were ones even an englishman like myself could understand.
I was only planning on watching the first episode before going out shopping, but I ended up watching the whole disk in one sitting because its just so much damn fun! yea, there are a couple jokes that missfire, but otherwise I was pretty much rolling with laughter throughout all 4 episodes.

For anyone who dosent know the general premise, its basically a kids-doing-ghostbusting show, where a bunch of 16-year-olds explore a haunted old school and banish ghosts using the help of a book written by the main characters dead mother.
The animation is pretty good, there's a spot of CGI in there whenever the camera is running down a hallway, I guess the general plot and episodes are ok in a wholy generic way, and its very episodic so far, so its easy to dip in and out of. Also, the ghosts-of-the-week are nicely varied and present a different puzzle/challenge for the kids - though it often just boils down to the gangs resident born-again-christian being posessed by the dead mother who then saves the day - but hey, its not the destination but the journey - right? And the rewritten script is the real star of the show anyway. :p

Personally I cant wait for the next disk, and I really hope ADV does this sort of thing with a different show in the future.

I like some anime. Like Slam Dunk, Ranma 1/2, Dragon Ball Z. Uh... That's about it. I watched them all in Korean dub back when I was a kid.
