Oof that is bad. This fuckin guy.
At heart, Cameron is a sfx guy, not a storytelling guy. Like Lucas, he's more into pushing forward the technology of making movies than he is into movies themselves. And I guess we need guys like that, because at least they allow other filmmakers to make better movies.

Unfortunately The Abyss never got an HD release until the 4k AI one that just came out. The best you could get before that was DVD and Laserdisc.
Sadly The Abyss is the one exception that I only own on Laserdisc. I recorded the unedited DC from German TV some years ago, but it's just an upscaled DVD version. I keep a spare Laserdisc in case it dies.

I don't get why it's so hard for these guys to understand that yes it's their movie and they can do whatever they want to it but you still need to make the original version available. It always just comes off as spiteful to the fans.
Maybe some fans will give it the Star Wars Despecialized treatment.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'm still pulling for a final David movie where it goes Gonzo with an army of aliens and him trying to take out all the engineers in a feat of complete kill your creator anarchy.

I liked Romulus, I don't think I can add much more to the convo but to say I was confused when Andy dropped the line after killing the elevator alien. Didn't fit in there at all and didn't even work for me as fan service.

I think that ship has sailed. Probably the only chance there was of that would have been if Romulus had tanked worse than Covenant.

I agree, but if ridley scott wants to do it, maybe there would be willingness to do it. After all, since it's now 20th Century Disney, I'm guessing we'll get so much alien content that they'll end up making an alien multiverse complete with avp reboot events, Ripley adjacent side movies/ TV series, and anything else they can spam the market with.

Confirmed: Rewatch needed.

The subplot with Ash really sticks out for me and in part his directive from corporate is more frightening than the Alien itself.

That was always the point. The greater monster was the Weyland/Yutani Corporation.

Someone just published an article about it but it was pretty blatant that that was the larger antagonist of the series of films.

If Ash isn't helping the creature, it only kills Kane before Dallas and Lambert get a hold of it and throw it off the ship in its larval state.

Yes, the company is the bigger problem for sure. They've been helping the creatures the whole way via corporate greed.

Which, ironically, hasn't helped the film franchise at all.

I'm gonna say he's just another android despite the blood on his face. No way the real one risks his life by going to a prison planet.

Also, maybe this doesn't mean he's an android but it's an interesting observation nonetheless: the Bishop from Aliens was honest and selfless to a fault. I think thematically, the one we see in Alien III is meant to be his polar opposite in every way. She didn't trust Bishop until he earned it. This one is nice from the outset like the one she knows but when he doesn't get what he wants he spergs out.

What's you guys opinions on Cameron remastering Aliens, The Abyss and True Lies in 4k with AI, claiming them the definitive versions and not making a normal remaster available?

He did the same thing with T2 and it looked so fucking bad I had to track down the old blu-ray.
Personally, I didn't think the Aliens 4K release was anywhere as near as bad as some people make out... maybe it's me, maybe it's the way I've got my home cinema set up... Not watched True Lies 4k yet - I have it, but had recently watched it on LD prior to the 4K release, and didn't want to sit through it again so soon.

Terminator and Terminator 2 I have both on LD, both THX masters, neither film I'm inclined to "upgrade" to blu ray or 4K. T2 THX Squeeze has to be seen to be believed - the PQ is amazing. Just a shame it's not the DC.

I tried rewatching True Lies a few months back and couldn't get through it. I liked it back in the day, but watching it now is so groan-worthy. Right off the bat, every single line that comes out of Tom Arnold's mouth makes me wince. After 5 seconds it's like, okay, dude, okay, we get it. Please shut up now. If someone could somehow edit Tom out of the movie like some fans tried with Jar-Jar, maybe the rest of the movie would be watchable.

True Lies was cool. Loved it when I was 7, and I still like it now, the only trouble is the 140 minute runtime. At the time it felt like a video game in movie form, a real adventure.

Everyone always mentions the striptease, but even when I was a kid, it was the ending that left such an impression on me. I remember thinking when I grow up, I want to dance with my wife in a ballroom like that and have that kind of relationship. I can only think of Arnold and Jamie dancing anytime I hear Por Una Cabeza.
