I agree. It brought a built in connection to the existing narrative that has mattered to fans of the franchise by making it about Amanda Ripley and her search for closure. The setting was a natural way to recreate the haunted house feel of the first movie and it brought back a lot of elements from the first film in a way that is logical in order for this game to even happen. Bringing back all the surviving actors to reprise their roles in the various audio logs was a good bridge between things as well.

The other thing that was nice about the first game was that you really didn't know what was going to happen. Was Amanda going to survive or sacrifice herself putting a stop to the threat? The ticking clock of Sevastapol plummeting into the atmosphere was a good way to artificially create tension. And the corporate brinksmanship that defines so much of that first film's undercurrent is WELL represented in the cynical closure of the station and the disregard these companies have for those stuck in a bad situation. And the sheer size of the station gives you a lot of places to explore and, for once, having to backtrack was intense and felt perilous rather than tedious since you didn't know when the creature was going to show up the first time you played it. Now we know that almost all of its appearances are scripted/stage based but its behavior is entirely AI driven so there is always that unpredictability.

Loved everything about that first game.
