AES picture problems

My Japanese AES has been acting up today. When I went to play some MS3, the screen would occasionally flicker, lighten and darken, and it has those faint vertical lines on screen that are most noticable in areas of pure black and dark blue.
First I thought it could be the cart, which I examined and even cleaned. Nope- turns out all my carts have the same problem....must be the system. I've checked all the connections, and everything seems to be plugged in securely. I'm using AV cables.
One thing- when I bought the system the guy supplied me with a Genesis (I think, it's a Sega one of some sort) AC adaptor instead of a Neo one...presumably because he thought I'd prefer this one to the innapropriate voltage of the Jpn one. Maybe he just didn't have a real one. Could that be the problem?
Please help guys...I hope my Neo isn't screwed up badly! I always take great care of it, in fact all of my systems sit in an enclosed cabinet with doors on the front, so it's safe and clean. What could this be?

When I use to have an aes,my power supply went AWOL so instead of forking out for a new one I plugged my genisis power adaptor into my neo and used it for over 3 years without ever having a problem with it so I dont think its that, how long have your neo and that adaptor for?if its recent could be a dodgy neo if you have had it a long time it would be doubtful that its the adaptor

Have you got a guarantee with it,because if you have you can take it back to get fixed or exchanged otherwise you will have to look at a place which can fix these things as I know if I paid alot of money for something as great as the neo I would want it to work

what you describe is noise from the power supply. it's gonna die within the next 6 months or so. get a new genesis power supply, or any with the same rating, and you'll be fine.

Thanks Arakon, I really appreciate it! I replaced the power supply and now it works great. *whew*

Mine is doing that too...alas, mine uses a 5v instead of the 9/10v adapters that the Genesis uses. It's not going to be easy to find a 5V 3A adapter...
