ok in my hunt to sneak in a cab for myself without the fiancee eatting my head off I've stumbled upon a Primal Rage Cab from craigslist that looks like its in good shape. Here are some pics...

some small details

What i'd like to do is take this cab and basically switch in and out pcb boards and what not

the finer details

He wants 250 for it i dont know if thats a firm 250 or what

now what kind of questions should I ask before purchasing this? ..is this a good cab to start with? I'd be mainly using the cab for shooters

Well, considering this is your first cab you may or may not want to look into other options.

For one, I don't think you would be happy with the current control panel layout for long.

It looks like the put the controls far up towards the monitor because there was already holes in the normal spaces from the last game. It seems like reaching in like that may be a bit annoying after time. Perhaps you can peel back the overlay and put new buttons and joysticks in the old spots. Or you can always make a new control panel if you have some basic wood working skills.

However the monitor seems to be in good enough condition and considering that a new 25 inch monitor is anywhere from 350-450, 250 is not a bad price for a complete cab.

You shouldn't have any problems swaping out boards as primal rage is straight jamma.

Hope this helps with some of your questions...good luck and be warned once you get your first cab...well thats when the obsession starts.

From what I see, that monitor looks to be 19". The mounting ears are on the sides of the monitor and all 25" monitors I've ever seen had the mounting ears on the top and bottom. Also there appears to be a lot of bezel between the monitor and the edge of the cab. Usually the distance is pretty small with a 25". I could be completely wrong, but you might want to ask first. There's a big price difference between the two. But everything else looks huge on the cab: 2 coindoors next to each other and the aircraft carrier control panel, so who knows. Just find out beforehand, that way you don't have any unpleasant surprises.

sure looks like it was originally a 4 player style control panel (especially with 4 coin mechs). no reason for all that space otherwise. i would imagine, as well, there would be an existing layout underneath that you should be able to use.

ok so if it has a 4 player style control panel under it wouldn't that be even better then? since 4 player cabs are usually a lot more then 250

if it is a 19 inch then no... I would hold out for another deal.

The monitor is your main buying point.
