Liveable wage is a viable discussion, but so are people's living expectations.
People making $30k shouldn't be buying $40k trucks, and iphone 12's, and everything else they can't afford.

Also, I'm not sure min wage has ever been a livable wage. It shouldn't be the source of income for a household.

A new latest edition iPhone isn't that expensive when you break it out over 2 years and subsidized by a carrier. Then add in the residual value at the end of the 2 years.

Easily cheaper for than my landline cost me per month when I was in college and making $4.25 an hour.

Maybe not a sole source.

But if you have 10 min wage jobs that you perform concurrently, and remotely, it could be decent.

Hey Mon!
ONLY 10 JOBS??????

Get your lazy yankee ass back to work.

Almost no one makes minimum wage anyway. Like 2-3% according to the most recent years I can find. And states are free to set their own minimums. Unsurprisingly, several do. Including California at $13. God help you if you live in California for $13 an hour. PA goes by federal minimum and I can say with certainty that even McDs is not hiring people in at $7.25.

Simple economics.

But since money to lefties is just some imaginary, magical concept where enough always appears with absolutely no deleterious consequences, make it $15. Better yet, make it $20. I mean if it doesn't matter at all, why does the number even matter?

Where us Sylvie when you need them?

Also, I'd rather read another Saner post about how weeboo fighter all girl cast hyper waifu edition is the best game of all time with the deepest combos and romance options before I'd ever read another sociopolitical post from Norton.

As if it's not like we have the peso to look at to see what happens when you just print more money to accommodate everyone.

For real:

The SECOND I saw this topic show up in the forums, I feared opening it because I knew Norton would be active in it.

Oh, as for my thoughts on the matter

I've been reading The Last God from DC Comics' Black Label imprint. It's pretty good. Nice worldbuilding and characters/character development. Some legit moments of true dark fantasy horror that are quite unsettling. Engaging read that is, at times, hard to put down.

I hear there's a 5E sourcebook for it. Need to hunt that down.

Solid reference.

But with remote work, we are about to see more and more people double and triple dipping on low effort labor. Buy more laptops, get more work done, put the kids to work clicking.

You should check out the transcripts, they're EXACTLY THE SAME.

Your inflation 1:1 argument isn't founded in real world economics. And it requires that you make the argument that income growth is bad.

And the the minimum wage isn't printing money.

Raising the min wage to $15/hr is fools gold.

That assumes WAY too many things that just isn't true.

Here's some stats for ya:

https://www.bls.gov/opub/reports/minimum-wage/2018/pdf/home.pdf

First off, most min wage workers aren't full time, so no health care, no retirement, nada. Second, because of loophole laws statewide, there's all kinds of ways to get around paying someone even min wage.

Lastly...let's just say that you do work full time, 40hrs/week, 160/mo. At $15/hr, that's only $2400 BEFORE taxes. That's not a "living wage" in most places, even at $15/hr.

The issue is that working a min wage job, often part time, will never be something you can live off of with any level of comfort or security. Once again, is just snake oil that politicians adore to bring up because it sounds so good to say.

*EDIT*

It's often said that people with full bellies do not revolt. The whole absurd minimum wage thing is not a fix for skyrocketing housing, energy, and transportation costs. About the only thing still relatively affordable is food (well, cheap high calorie food is cheap). If that starts to trend like the others I listed...that will get people's attention.

The "loopholes" are essentially:
1. Be a prison
2. Be a Sheltered workshop.

Anyways, a lot has been written about the job and wage growth of 2010-2020.

Was it Obama? Was it Trump?

I suggest that it was due to states and municipalities raising their minimum wage thresholds.

Anyways, we should all go back to talking about how pervasive we will see [Heterosexual] pedos using these laws to sneak inside women's bathrooms and prey on little kids.

Women's sports and bathrooms will make a comeback once they realize how filthy men can be in there.

It's a well known fact amongst cleaners that the ladies room is almost always the filthiest. I speak out of personal experience. Trust me, it's very true. At gasstations, bars, etc.

It’s bad enough that women in Florida are masquerading as teachers in order to fuck boys.

Leave the pedophilia to priests, goddammit.

Did someone say California?

At my work we start at $15, you have be 21, and have a college degree!

Don’t worry, it’s the state that mandates the age and education requirements.

No one is happy with there pay.

A co-worker told me KFC in her town starts at $17.

The burger joint down the road from me starts at $15 and hires kids, lol.

One of the sad reason why Biden raise the minimum wage to $15 and will extend the unemployment benefit through September is because of the hyperinflation. Currently, we are in a depression and it will probably not support what is coming next to the economy.
