The problem with mental health is its morphing into intersectionality and victim culture.
My mental issues are more important than yours because I'm part of these 4 groups and you are only a white male veteran.
Plus, we're also in this age where everyone wants to be medicated and everyone needs an excuse for their shortcomings....
Wow, yeah. I had the same thought (I don't know what intersectionality means though).
I think everyone agrees mental health is important. But I get the feeling that a lot of people who say things like 'I need a mental health day away from work' ease themselves into this mindset to make themselves comfortable instead of actively trying to improve themselves. And I think a lot of people lack the introspection to ask themselves, "What is wrong with me? Why do I feel this way? How can I be better? How does my behavior affect the ones I love?"
Seriously, it sounds crazy literally talking to yourself and asking yourself questions but it can help out.
But the number one thing imo, above all others, for mental health is financial security. If a person is living paycheck-to-paycheck, if they have to check their bank account to make sure they have enough money to pay the bills, then they probably are not going to feel mentally well and will probably be depressed. A min wage that people can actually live off of would do wonders for the well-being of a country's people.
I'm no expert, these are just my own opinions.
