My first question is, would an american version Genesis work on a JP Mega CD system or would there be a lockout chip that would not make the two work automatically?

My second question is, would a JP mega cd game work on an american Sega cd system?

Any help would be gratly appreciated.

1) Yes. Currently I'm using US Genesis 2 and JPN Mega CD2 together. It also works for JPN Mega Drive and US Sega CD.

2) JPN Mega CD game will not work on US Sega CD unless you have convertor.

uhm, no. the scd bios has a lockout against the wrong country genesis. I have 3 model 1 and 5 model 2 segacds here, from various countries, as well as several genesis model 1 and 2, the lockout is definately present.

imports will not play unless you get a cdx cart (import adapter cart). however, they are hard to find now, and there are several different versions, some will not work with model 1, some not with model 2, and they will not work with all games either, especially jap ones.

there is another way, and that is my multibios.. it's a switchable bios replacement which is 100% compatible to all games, and has the genesis lockout removed as well. you can check it out at http://arakon.hn.org/tutorial/bios.html .
