Thanks. My brain damage comes from falling off a countertop as a baby. :lolz:

My lawsuit involved being injured by another student while waiting for gym class to begin whilst unsupervised. The Gym coach was a woman, and would waste up to 10 minutes of class time being in the locker room with the girls while we all waited. Some asshole sneaked up behind me one day during that time and pushed me down, and I broke both wrists from the fall. To this day I have no clue why he did it, I didn't even know the guy.

So anyway, after over a year of litigation I got a couple thousand dollars in a lawsuit settlement with the school district which mostly went toward that computer.

At the time computers where the new hype .. I would definitely get my both wrist broken if in return I would have gotten a PC. Yet again thinking about that time... 2-3 months with no masturbation would have been lethal for me. :keke:

Thanks for sharing the story. ;)

First doom i played was on my dad's 486, it was the shareware version that came with the computer and he dropped about a grand on the system, OS was still ms-dos back in those day's.
Being an amiga 500 boy at the time it was a real game changer for me.
My dad hated it by the way, and was playing stuff like ambermoon, dungeon master and the SSI dungeons and dragons games on it, what a waste.
I also played the shit into X-Wing and TIE Fighter on the system.
To say i was impressed would be an understatment.

Didn't you already learn from this thread that PCs were only for super rich people and cost $5000 at the time? I guess all these experts that didn't actually own a PC back then know better than those of us who did. Some of these bozos apparently don't realize that you didn't have to buy a PC brand new from the store at full retail. Believe it or not but you could get refurbished systems or used systems for much less, even in the 90s.

You are right about X-Wing and Tie Fighter, those were incredible games.

No way bro, not worth it at all. Not only was I 13 at the time (at the prime of a young man's wanking career), I couldn't wash myself or wipe my own ass either, as my casts went up past my elbows. I was fucking worthless for 8 weeks. Having your mom wipe your ass when you're not an infant is humiliating as fuck. I couldn't even hold a controller bro, as my wrists were cast at a downward bend. :crying:

Lol no, I thought people on this forum had thicker skin than most.

Pointing out that you sound like a really angry person doesn't make me thin-skinned. You're the one who seems to be getting defensive.

The irony is that after finally getting a computer, by the time the casts come off at 8 weeks, you go to play and realize it's already obsolete.

It was missing the music, and a number of the stages were configured differently or missing altogether. It was a really great port for it's time, but it's time has passed. Subsequently, it was more or less the base for the other console ports that would come after it, save for the SNES version.

The 3DO version of Doom was fucking horrible, tho. The Wolf3D port was better.

I guess they improved it on GBA then, perhaps when people said it was JagDOOM they took the original source material and made it suck less. It has the stages of the Jag game, maybe a couple more, and it has all the DOOM music of the PC game going for it so it's not silent on there. Speaking of that SNES version I really wish Midway hadn't cheaped on the cartridge size by a piddly 2Mbit and a battery. It could have been truly fantastic because the actual game if you check that massive all covering DOOM1 and 2 FAQ that's been around 15-20 years now with updates shows the SNES one of the console ports (pre-2000) has the most maps and most accurate maps to the original game. Had they put the added space in there would have been ground/ceiling textures and all 8 monster views, plus with the battery -- it would have been playable. You really can't enjoy DOOM in one sitting. Using the X-Band modem though you can trick it through that to save though, or use that Naki+ action replay cart to make a save state (or use a Retron 5 too.)

To the rest of the thread, I too had a PC going back to an old 386sx16 Christmas of 1990, so I guess I had mad money too. I can totally relate to the best of the games really being in many ways made for DOS and Windows, not consoles. Tie, XW, Wing Commander 1 and 2, SCUMM Engine (Lucas point n click like Indy Fate of Atlantis), Stunts racing, Ultima Underworld, the Apogee and ID Software lineups, Epic Games titles, and more. So much stuff that so little made it to consoles and usually in lesser form -- except on 3DO, Super Wing Commander and the Star Control II conversions are insane.

I also never understood the mentality of selling a system to get one when you enjoy the stuff so much. I've never been able to do it except in more recent years if I was fed permanently with something (ran out of games to care about) or to get an upgraded system version for little expense.

I doubt the floor and ceiling textures were left out due to space.

Real talk, I don't have a 3DO; I think overall the Jag is probably more obscure to the average person. Well the average person doesn't know WTF either of those are, but you get the point. I wanted a 3DO when I was younger but it was never in the cards. If I was going only by what I read on the tubes, the 3DO only has 4 or 5 games worth playing. But I haven't experienced the system so I can't comment on it. However there is so much Internet hate about the Jag it seems that people who haven't even played one will talk about how shitty it is. Same thing with the "LOL Jag controller sux it has a telephone pad ROFLZ." Yes, Atari made a mistake by only having 3 buttons on the controller and the keypad is mostly useless, but the controller itself is comfortable in the hands and isn't a complete loss by any means. Additionally, same thing with the "LOL Jag CD is unreliable and they're all broken" shit. Totally overblown.

Real talk I've owned both systems since they came out, sold both of them when I worked at Electronics Boutique..and the Jag is lacking. And i've never watched AVGN because I'm pushing 40 and thus have very little connection to the youtube thing.

Haha, so true. But I did actually get to enjoy my computer, because by the time I got my settlement, I had been healed up for over 2 years already.

Injured myself in late '93, got computer in mid '96. Was a 200MHz Pentium MMX Packard Bell. Top of the line for about 2 months, cost $2500. :lolz:

Yeah, it was more for performance reasons, since the frame rate is terrible enough without them.

Angry? No. I just question one's critical eye when I heard the words "Cybermorph" and "cool" uttered in the same sentence. I mean I get that you probably have nostalgia for it, but can you honestly say that it's a good game?

Even for it's time I though Cybermorph was awful, and I actually really wanted a 3DO back then. But despite growing up with a silver spoon in my mouth and golden diapers around my ass there was no way I was ever getting one with that $700 price tag.

I just love video games and look for what's good in each of them. I don't really care what you or anyone else thinks of my "critical eye", because I'm not trying to sell you something. I think that Cybermoprh is a neat game. If you don't agree then that's fine, but there's no reason to get so angry about it. Just calm the fuck down and stop trying to fit in around here by taking on some kind of "asshole" persona.

PC's cost an absolute fortune back in the early 90's
Everything was pricey back then, Extra Memory, HDD's, CPU's, even a second floppy drive.
It was a very expensive hobby.

Yeah, I can imagine what my dad would've said if I asked for a computer to play DOOM.

Peggy doesn't appreciate how nice his parents were.

You forget I worked for Midway for two years. One of my supervisors early on was on both the SNES and N64 DOOM projects. As DOOM had been a years long obsession that I was actively playing still then thanks to the DOOM Legacy project I asked him about stuff about both games. I know you can take it with a grain of salt as I can't obvious prove a conversation from 15 years ago but that's what I was told. The chip they went with to cut corners on costs was loaded up so much full of data they hadn't the room for the added code and textures for the missing monster views, monster aggression/shots against each other, ceiling and floor textures, and a few other little omissions from the game. It was a crime they did it, it could have been one of the most superior console versions for years from when it arrived. :(
