3DO vs Jaguar

i want to get another console because i dont have enough as it is.

im leaning towards the jaguar because it seems the 3do has nothing but shitty games. lemme know what im missing. whats good on these consoles? would something totally different be better?

(for reference ive got the majority of stuff from sega, nec, snk, nintendo, ms, sony, and a 2600.)

The 3DO is the better console. Jaguar is supposed to be more advanced, but it has crappier games, and those games that were ported to both systems look better on 3DO.

3DO has more peripherals (gun), and can also play VCD's.

Do not get a Jaguar CD if you get a Jaguar. They are notoriously fragile, and the slightest movement will have you opening it up and taking it apart trying to fix it.

3DO games are also more plentiful and less expensive to get.

However, if you insist on getting either one, I have one of each for sale.

Own 2 never had any problems. Not worth owning due to the lack of quality CD games.

I am sure that it has been over a decade since I have played either but I always liked the 3DO better. There was a game or two on the Jaguar that were good but the 3DO had a number of pretty good games.

yeah, it wasn't bad , I had ss1 and ssf2x and enjoyed em both

thing is you needed to have one at the time to appreciate how good 3do was. if you get one now you'll just be unhappy with it.

I used to love Crash N Burn when it first came out (along with the cheesy acting).

Definitely check out Power Drive Rally on Jaguar. I loved that game. Great 2D graphics with solid/tight gameplay. If you like neodriftout, rc pro-am, super cars (amiga) it's a nice, relatively unknown, under appreciated game.

Rayman's nice, but can be played on other systems (ps1 & saturn?) There's also Raiden 1 on the jag (pretty nice).

On the 3DO, all I *really* played was Super SF2 Turbo, Samurai Showdown 1, Starblade and Road Rash. However there are better options for SSF2T and SS1 these days. Other notables on 3DO, but not all that great (just fool around for 30 mins then forget about it):

1) JPN YuYu Hakusho (2D vs fighting, would rather play the JPN megadrive versions)
2) JPN Sailor Moon (2D vs fighting, pretty weak)
3) JPN Ultraman (fmv gimmick stuff)
4) Twisted (gameshow, the early 'party' games)
5) Johnn Bazooka tone? or something like that... also on ps1/saturn
6) Starblade, now I really dug this rails arcade shooter (dumped quite a few quarters into it at Circus Circus Las Vegas) but it's also available on the ps1
7) Need for speed, was cool for it's time
8) Mad Dog McCree, never was my cup of tea but lots of kiddies at the time loved it
9) Gex, good but available elsewhere too
10) Starcontrol, I was biased (would rather play pc version at the time)

Regardless, on either system you're hard pressed to find more than a handful of solid games you'll probably play. If you don't already, I'd say track down JPN superfamicom gems or even ps1. Of the "obscure sfc/ps1 good game lists" I've seen here, people leave out quite a few titles I would add.

How was Samurai Spirits on the 3do, decent?

Graphically it was great, but it didn't control very well on the 3DO pads or the giant MAS Systems-like joysticks we used for SSF2T. The sound was also kinda "muted".

But it was way ahead of the SNES/Genesis ports of the time.

I thought the Sam Sho port was great, as was the Super Turbo port

I also loved Gex, Road Rash, and I think there was a decent FIFA game on the 3DO

and I did fine using the Goldstar pads

anyway, getting the machine for $250 was awesome back in the day, the problem is that most of these games have been done better by now

not really many system exclusives

3DO also had Killing Time and Space Hulk, which I thought were alright.

3D0 is awesome. Star Control II is the best game ever made. nothing short of genius.

Return fire (and the maps o' death expansion), cannon fodder, space hulk and road rash are all great as well.

SSF2:T was a good port, as was samurai spirits, but there are better options now.

Hell, the 3D0 is better than the xbox360 as far as games go (and it is certainly more reliable hardware). jaguar doesnt even come into the picture, though i am occasionally tempted to pick one up just to try alien v. predator...

I don't think the 'I have it on CPS2' argument holds up either, so what? its only a few dollars for the 3do port, and its still worth it to see what its like. At the time, it was the only home port around for fucking YEARS, and I played the shit out of it.

If you're going to say that the 3do has better games than the 360 then that's definitely blind hatred. For every one good 3do game you could easily name 5+ good 360 games.

I actually collect both, but I have much more love for the 3DO. I have multple 3DO consoles and just 1 jag+cd. If the jaguar had proper programming, the games could have been amazing.

For 3do
-You have many more games.
-Can always grab backups to play the hard to find titles.
-cheaper

For Jaguar
-Better indie support. Nothing spectacular at the moment, but Jagsector is well alive.
-There was a recent release of sealed game onto the market. You can get almost anything for a decent price. This supply is drying up fast.
-Carts more fun to collect
-Jag cd for all your toilet envy

But seriously, all Jaguar has is Tempest 2000 and AvP. It also has a really good homebrew scene...but other than that, nothing else is worthwhile.

Whereas 3DO has many of the games mentioned above, and a really really good version of Wolfenstein 3D.€€€€€€

However if you want to get a system for sheer looks, get the Jaguar and the Jaguar CD toilet lookalike upgrade.
