This is kinda funny. Around 25 minutes in, they mention Dion and Neo Geo Freak. I skipped ahead. :(

Kinda of nice, but alot of their facts were wrong. World Heroes Data East?

and then they credited Windjammers to ADK...

It was a little sad toward the end. They were trying so hard to figure out what that Irem Metal Slugish submarine game was. :(

It’s oddly coincidental, since I’ve recently become quite the fan of Retronauts and never considered them devoting an entire podcast to the Neo Geo. This episode was mildly disappointing since none of the assembled regulars seemed to know anything about the system, and the conversation usually defaulted to a monologue by Brandon Sheffield. Sheffield runs Insert Credit and really knows his stuff, including a mildly hilarious anecdote involving Dion of all people. However, his observations were mostly dry and factual. Absent were any passionate discussions of the games themselves, which should have been the focus of the show instead of the ancillary technical tangents about single-speed CD drives and juggling monkeys. I’m sure most people here, myself included, would have had a great deal more substantive contributions to such a discussion, but I suppose that’s to be said of any enthusiasts. Regardless, it was still an entertaining listen as always...

Are they still talking over one another? I listened to this once, but got sick of the snarky, super nerd tone.

I gave this a listen tonight and it made me feel like the comic nerd who sits in critique of the movie adaptation. Mind you, I am NOT a definative expert on the Neo so I know some of the others around here would find fault with a lot of their discussion.

Oh yeah, and the best Neo game EVER: World Heroes?! :oh_no:

I haven't listened to the episode, but I'm downloading it now.

Retronauts have a few really good episodes in their archive. The game music episodes, the DOOM episode and the second Castlevania tribute are really good listens. I agree that sometimes the facts are completely off, but you can find out the real answers just looking at gamefaqs or finding a fan site.

Retronauts is nice because of the music and the occasional rad stories of game filled youth.

I'm stoked to hear some Dion bashing... NGF drama is always fun to hear.

If you like retronauts, check out the 1-up yours podcast, it's sometimes funny. EGM live is OK, but a little kiddie oriented.. Games For Windows podcast is funny...

I listen to all these podcasts on my terribly long morning commute while playing boring Japanese RPGs on my PSP or DS. Playing Front Mission First right now, pretty god damn sweet.

I listen to the whole thing it was kind of entertaining........

Still they are.... way off on some facts these guys should have done some more research, befor stating what companys made these games.

Realy wtf Dataeast made WH :p Please we all know it was "by ADK and that SNKP got the IP'S for it in the end.

It also seems like they struggle just to have a answer when a question came up :lolz:

In the end i guess they were to proud to google for the info.... or ask some body here for help :hcb:

I've decided that all their podcasts must be riddled with similar bad facts, and I'm just not noticing it when it relates to games that I don't play.

As long as you can suspend your disbelief, you're good to go though, because it is entertaining, and the music is good.

Just listened to it now.

Got the feeling there was only a couple of neo fans in the room with some people who didn't think much of it.

I'm used to Retronauts being filled with positive trips down memory lane... maybe the whole Neo thing was a bit to new for the members to have really gotten into it...

I was hoping for some more Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown love. I think there just needs to be a neo-geo.com podcast. Some members have to have the radio/college radio experience to be able to do it.

I was making a podcast devoted to Fatal Fury Special and stopped because it wasn't very good. Made me respect the podcasters much more... But, we really need a neo-geo podcast about the hobby, new games, retrogames and the boards.. There could be whole episodes based on NGF, Steel Sisters and Stinky drama...

Seriously? Metal Slug.

World Heroes has to be on the short list of worst Neo Geo games.

meh, I have yet to listen to a good podcast.
I skipped around it earlier today, looks like they played the more mainstream Neo titles and that's about it...woulda been nice if they touched up on the more obscure ones. But maybe they did and I skipped it.

They're not neo-heads, but hey, they gave the neogeo love. Plus they interviewed Frank Cifaldi from lostlevels.org earlier that month and did a damn good job. So. go figure.

Plus they get major bonus points for pointing out that Dion Dakis was in Cho Aniki.

I forgot about the episode with Frank Cifaldi. That was excellent.

Everyone should check that out!
