I miss the Captron/G&G, Funcoland, and OG EB Games days. The only store that brings that kind of vibe nowadays is Play N Trade. Barely.

The tight coca cola shirt, moustache and gold chain is a pretty badass look.

I think I'll bring it back. To the future.

I so miss those good old days...
EB to me was like the bar everybody knew your name... I started shopping there
when the genesis launched. Was just a small shelf to select from.
Later found out there was a Babbage's at the other end of the mall...
it was the greatest discovery, like when Columbus discover North America!

I think that last system launch before it went too main stream was dreamcast.
shit when downhill after that....was the end of an era :(

this thread is depressing! i have a hard time believing those picture were taken in 1989. i remember that look more in the mid 80s. geek life was good back then for a kid!
Babbages was the great! at least i remember it being that way. bought my first DOS game there in 89. and my dad bought our first family computer in 89 (486dx). he used it for his business until 2007 and actually had supported software updates until then...for DOS!
I make sure to play at least one DOS game every year.

I love the 80's malls. Orange Julius, Aladdin's Castle and Babbages...

it was cool back in the day when the mall had random arcade games though out the full strip in the center.

Gentlemen, welcome to my childhood. Because the pictures with the brown floor tiles are from the Smithhaven Mall here in Long Island. The hair could have been any mall in the tri-state area, but when I saw the floor tiles, the Sears with the trees inside the mall, it was a dead giveaway. I'm pretty sure the photo with the mother and son playing Double Dragon is in another mall because I don't remember playing that at Time Out.

No cell phones...this was the first thing that struck me...

Now they're everywhere, there would be at least one if not 10 in every one of those pics...

And yes, that was my childhood as well, I would have been 12 when those were taken...

I was about 5 when these were taken. I would have been walking around in LA gear shoes, hot colored shorts and a TMNT T-shirt.

Oh yeah, I'd most likely be found in the mall arcade, playing 2P Final Fight with my father.

Yep.

I was 11 at that time. Best year for me (as a kid) was 1988 at age 10 though. That year was just amazing on so many Mall and video game arcade related notes (and even on NES). This thread makes me yearn for Valley Hi Mall, Westlakes Mercado Mall, and Ingram Mall (it's still there but sucks compared to back in the day)
