Another interesting hint is the UniBIOS gfx fails to load when booting vs a working cart. Only the fonts load.

Had the same issue, just bought a v3.. instructions list this as a feature. So I guess the bootleggers could care less to update the instructions.. Looks like I'll be using a smart switch on it..
