I've tried a few carts on my turntable and I still think the M44-7 is amazing. The 9.5 mV output just does it for me. I had 4 other carts before and I gave away 2 of them and I still have a Shure m97xE that this asshat wants 550 bucks for:

I always thought the m97xE was wayyyyy overrated

Shure going under, fucked many a working DJ up. Everyone wants a ton of loot for the limited number of M97/M44s left out there.

Luckily…this happened:

JICO got the old factory tooling…Shure, in everything but name. Made in Japan.

The M97 isn't a bad cart, I've used it in the past and still have a new one somewhere around here, but yeah definitely overrated.

I currently use a Sumiko Rainer and find it to be just as good as the Blue M2 or M97.

Yeah, I saw that. When my stylus needs replacing I'll definitely get a JICO, but at the prices they want for the cartridge, most people I know ended up buying a used M44 on eBay.

I think Shure still makes microphones, they just stopped manufacturing phono cartridges.

Neither I (take w/ a grain of salt) or DJ Rob Swift (take as gospel) can tell much of a difference between the JICOs and Shures.

He did a Pepsi challenge set on FB, and that’s what convinced me to go JICO.

The Denon DP-300 is back in its box, testing showed that a severely tired 40 year old Panasonic beats the shit out of it. Will be buying the Thorens instead.

I had 4 turntables before I got my Audio Technica 120. My only regret is not jumping on a new Technics 1200 when I had a chance in 2010, but otherwise, yeah there are definitely better turntables out there. I like direct drive stuff and I don't feel like paying 1000+ for the new 1200 or going vintage looking for an old school Denon DP47, etc.

yeah, I don't think they make high quality autos these days. I liked the look of the 300 but never trusted it as a product because of that.

Did everyone start listening to Belle and Sebastian because of me? Am I an influencer now?

Yep. I went out and got those records brand new just to follow a trend on this forum. I have no idea why I’m buying OSTs for a 1981 kids anime that isn’t Gundam but whatever, I have to be accepted.

Recent clear purple reissue. I’m not a big fan of the Mac but this, their first single, is honestly more my thing. More classic/pysch/prog than the hits. It’s not amazing one way or another though.

Very pretty looking but very ugly sounding wax for this one…

I need to get a juke box…but aren’t they all either locked to big hole or small hole? Seems impractical with my cosmopolitan collecting habits.

Will buy any output from this duo. This is the true soul of cracker culture. As real as anything Woody Guthrie ever made.

Split Verdict!

Side A: stone cold masterpiece forever.

Side B: pour superglue on it.
