Before I resort to eBay, any of you guys have a minidisc player you're looking to part with? Something like the Sony MZ-R500 would probably be perfect.

I always have paypal at the ready, or some fun stuff to trade like an extra KOF 98 for MVS, or perhaps an atari lynx even.

Can recommend the Sony. Keep in mind that lots of players can't record anymore and test it first. The recording head is definitely the weak spot.

Ah nice, good to know. I used to have that blue sony one ages ago.

I recently built an apple 1 clone and cassette interface. I can use an iPod to send audio programs to the computer, but the card also supports saving memory to cassette. I've tested it with a literal cassette player both ways (Save and then load the data) and it works fine. Obviously my iPod can't record by itself. I think a minidisc player that could both save and load programs for the Apple-1 would be pretty neat.

Man, if there's anything else to pry this from you, hmu
So the lynx story, it's a bundle a buddy threw me way back when he moved out of state. It's got a case, AC adapter, and a few games. Maybe a link cable? My only thing is I would have to trade it probably, I don't like selling stuff I got like that.

Trade wise I did sell most of my MVS carts when I moved, so those might get me loosened up (giggity)

I have a blue MZ-R900 if everything else falls through
Nice, I'll keep that in the back pocket. Shame international shipping went up so much but I would of course cover it if someone stateside doesn't get me. Thanks man.

Not my sale; however, this is a crazy nice price on this unit. My wife and I both have this model, and *love* it.

Recording is ACE on this jawn; can set line level on the fly. I use this to rip breaks from LPs at record store preview stations.

Definitely check the recording functions, I went through a MD phase a few years ago after selling off my original unit years prior and I ended up with 3 portable units that were all faulty.

To give you guys an idea of what I'm after, like I said above, having a player that could also record would be really cool for my Apple 1 clone. Here's a picture of it having loaded software from an iPod, but of course, an iPod does not have line in to save anything back off of the Apple 1 replica. I think a little MD recorder with removable discs would be pretty slick.

Massive eggplant sized thanks to @CORY for the MD player. It loads programs for sure, I just have to test saving from the Apple 1 clone to MD but I expect it should work.

The minidisc probably has more computing power than the apple, but then again, it's a very elegant solution to the issue. Nice work man!

Oh yeah, an MD player not only plays back (sorta) CD rate digital audio it also compresses and decompresses it in real time, in 24 bit chunks even. That particular model even displays kanji on the remote, IIRC, and if it is a JDM model. I don’t think an Apple 1 can do even do full English ASCII let alone Unicode.

Yea, lowercase support didn't even hit Apples 6502 machines until modified ROMs for the Apple II for 80 col cards / appleworks came around. My II plus has a videx character ROM to enable lowercase display.
