they are probably realizing that statistically they only have fans who were born in 1985 or 1986, everyone else hates them, and after you do the math you realize that $130M is greater than the future money expected from the static demographic of males born in 1985/1986 when measuring the data with to their current rate of death

This is the makes a lot of sense. Their earning potential is only going down, and who wants to hustle for dying festival and radio shows?

Seems OK to me. Dylan only sold his catalog for $300 million and he’s got a much much deeper collection of worthwhile material than RHCP.

They both have thier rough spots.

What would you rather listen to?
RHCP's first three albums?
Or:
Bob Dylan's 3 Jesus albums?

Should perform one last time and sell the original recording as NRT, it will probably go for more than 140 mil

Really? Dylan made a couple of iconic songs against war or whatever but RHCP has some absolute bangers. But I'm not really a Dylan fan anyway so that's my bias

I was like “Mother’s Milk is an excellent album...oh it’s their fourth.”

A lot of artists are selling their catalogs at the moment. Cant tour, gotta pay the bills. Also streaming royalties are pitiful. May as well get out while the going is good.

I’m actually not that big a fan of pre-electric Dylan either, which is when most of his big anti-war stuff is from. And I get his voice is never going to sit well with some people...but dude was mostly on fire from mid-60s through late 70s.

and Slow Train Coming is alright as far as the Jesus phase goes

I like both Dylan and RHCP, but, I'd definitely go with RHCP.

How long is it going to be free or at least cheap though? I think once physical media is finally done away with the cost of streaming is going to be increased sharply.

One of their crusty dick socks goes for good money on eBay, but, they're tricky to get authenticated without a DNA sample if said sock isn't also autographed.
