The one entertaining thing about Dune is that WB has released a teaser of their next 5 or 6 DC comics movies followed by the tag, "Only in theaters." Haha suck it, Villeneuve!

I guess filming begins soon on Part 2? What do you think for release 2024?

That seems pretty aggressive in terms of completion.
You gotta figure that 75% of the movie is CG so they can just repurpose a lot of the assets from the first movie. Plus who knows how much extra footage was shot knowing that a sequel was almost guaranteed.

Also I assume the studio wants it asap, they gotta keep the franchise relevant. Maintaining general audience interest demands they can't wait too long in-between.

Casting for part two
Princess Irulan Corrino - Florence Pugh
Feyd Rautha Harkonnen - Austin Butler
Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV - Christopher Walken

Also, Johan Renck will direct the first two episodes of the upcoming television series. His other credits:
The Walking Dead - directed 1 episode
Breaking Bad - directed 3 episodes
Vikings - directed 3 episodes
Bates Motel - directed 1 episode
Halt and Catch Fire - directed 1 episode
Bloodline - directed 2 episodes
Shuteye - directed 1 episode
Ettor and nollar - directed mini series
The Last Panther - directed and executive produced mini series
Chernobyl - directed and executive produced mini series

Villeneuve was going to direct the first two episodes himself but the TV series being delayed and the sequel film being moved up means he doesn't have time.

What will the TV series be about?
It's set 10,000 years prior to the start of the first film and deals with the immediate aftermath of the Butlerian Jihad and the founding of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Sounds like it will take some elements from the prequel novels written by Herbert's idiot son but not follow them too closely.

Dune was pretty good but it looks like part 2 will get what was sorely missing in the first: more cowbell.
