That's why price guides are so hard. Everyone has an agenda. The prairiedillo cops price guide is a prime example. If he didn't own the game it was cheap, but willow magically became a 500 game and then within a week he was selling one every two weeks.

First of all, anyone paying 500 for a CPS1 failure timebomb is an idiot.

As for price guides, you're right, they are difficult and should be taken with a grain of salt. AES in particular can value can vary wildly due to condition. A growing portion of titles are difficult to price at all. eBay sold listings are not reliable for rarer titles. Buyers will quote the lowest examples possible and vice versa, based on completed listings that may have been shilled, unpaid, cancelled, returned, misrepresented, discounted or otherwise manipulated.

Tried picking up maglord on Ebay.
Seller wanted $140 because 'those are realistic prices' for this game.
I disagreed.
One hour later it sold.
Morale of the story; whenever some schmuck buys a title at a price like that, it becomes a valid statistic and it validates the seller's asking peice. It's a never ending cycle of artificial inflation. And we can't do shit against it.

Of course our site can (and does). Manipulation on ebay happens. Over-eager buyers with pits of cash happen. Fakes being sold happens. Ebay alone does not set the price standard, unless you let it.

Hey Mike, are you planning on doing another update soon?

Been working on one the past few weeks. A lot of mid and higher end AES stuff doesn't have any recent sales anywhere (nin-nin, forums, ebay, satakore, neo-store, etc) so have been hoping to find more infos before updating. At any rate - yes, plan to finish up the latest update this evening.

Perfect - thanks. There was a copy on nin-nin for 440000 JPY (about $4,000) that sold a couple months back and that's the only one i've seen - so that sale you saw is helpful.

Greetings and a long overdue update. As always this is intended as a North American Buyer's Guide. (prices will be different in Europe, S. America and Asia)

The prices are roughly what you should expect to pay on a forum / facebook deal. Retailers will most assuredly be higher. Condition / completeness / provenance will also play a role in moving prices up or down. 20-25ish AES titles have very few sales. A mint insert vs a torn / faded insert on a high end AES title can mean a $1,000+ swing on price.

tl;dr - This is a guide, not a bible.

A + or - symbol indicate a 25% change since last update.

Completed forum sales (neo, shmups, AO, etc, sold items on ebay, nin-nin, neo-store, satakore, estar and other online retailers are also used)

6.16.19 update

MVS Price Guide
Spoiler:

*last updated 9.23.16
*last updated 6.16.19
*Lower end is a fake label, beat up cart and higher end is minty original label, if condition is in between the price would be in between.
*English Title (JP or Korean variant) - low end to high end
*Most games have gone up slightly since last update.
*Games with 25% or more INCREASE or DECREASE will have a + / - symbol

Great job there! Imho there are a some under rated titles like Andro Dunos jap, Maruko chan, Pulstar and Knights Chance. Seen them sold in the forum/ebay bidding by far more recently.

Maruko-chan is a real headache.

depending on condition and buyer it can go anywhere from 5000$ to more 20000$ I'd say...

Thanks for updating the list! I'm a little bit confused about the prices, though...
I'm looking to buy a Samurai Spirits 4 for AES and I can't find anything close to the price that you mention in the guide. I can only find prices around double of what you have in here. Am I missing something?

Thanks for updating the list! I'm a little bit confused about the prices, though...
I'm looking to buy a Samurai Spirits 4 for AES and I can't find anything close to the price that you mention in the guide. I can only find prices around double of what you have in here. Am I missing something?

Japanese version is $240-280.

one of the few mid-level games that stayed at the same price for more then a decade.

In todays market, the AES price guide should just be renamed to the "Homie Hookup Price Guide". Same goes for MVS. Some prices on both are way outdated still.

If the last guide update is true, I am done collecting. I got in around 2009 and even all the games I bought are like triple what I paid for them.

I think I paid for as much nostalgia as I can... I think.

I hear that. I tried climbing back in but then I thought to myself, why? Some of the prices are out of control. For the most part though I was able to find a good amount of Aes games for the same price I sold them for last year.

I use Yaj to give me a ball park figure of what Aes games go for via auction. Every once and awhile a cheap buy it now might pop up. Here's a small list I made of some games I was interested in. Of course you have to factor in shipping from Japan.

King of Monsters 2 $83-90
Real Bout $95
Mutation Nation $315
Ninja Commando $800
Magician Lord Regular $205-230
Nam 1975 Regular $165
Baseball Stars 2 $165
Sengoku Carton $130-150
Last Blade $230-300
Super Spy Carton $150
Last Blade 2 $380-500
Pulstar $1800-2000
SamSho IV $250-300
Art of Fighting 2 $20-30
KOF 95 $65-80
KOF 98 $160-180
Sonic wings 2 $415
Nam 1975 Carton $85
Art of Fighting $25-35
KOF 96 $70-80
Fatal Fury 3 $60-70

I think people finally got around to realising that the game is actually really fun to play, so long as you aren't trying to 1cc it. The movie references alone make it cool. A unique experience, at least.
