98, always.

Still, 2001 and 2003 are very nice and pretty unique.

After playing it more and more lately i'm starting to think that 2k2 is better than 98. Also take into consideration that i haven't played 2k3 yet.

98, 2k3 is kinda...well it's kinda crappy. sure it's fast paced, and it has the KOF feel, but it also feels kinda capcom-esque. SNK seems to have lost some of the original touch with it. KOF is still good, benimaru is still a fag, and kim still kicks ass, it's just kof2k3 feels like it's distant from the way SNK made the older, better kof games. 98 is still my favorite. i hear that rap song at the beginning and i gotta play.

This is crazy. As of this morning, people are still voting in the other "what's your favorite KOF" poll. But as long as I'm here...'02 is still my favorite, followed by '01 and '96.

Voted for '97 because even the roster in '98 is fucking awesome, they took out the possibility for Clark to grab after a hit in the air and as it's my main tactic to win with the roll->grab. So Clark becomes less effective .

2k2 is takes the cake for me right now. I am still a huge 01 fan, but 2k2 has edged it out as of this week. Next would have to be 97, then 95.

Voted '99 again.

I'm with SouthtownKid on this one.
People are still voting and posting in the other thread here.
Must we poll the same question every three weeks?
We can at least wait to poll again untill ''04 sees the light of day.

2001.

2002 is a slap-dash hack job and 2003 just feels heartless for some reason, although its engine is starting to win me over.

KOF '98 is and will remain not only the high point of the KOF series, but the best KOF released on the Neo-Geo system by far. :) Here's hoping that SNK Playmore finally gives us something that will top it in the form of KOF 2004; I definitely feel that KOF 2003 is a step in the right direction.

Don't see how anyone can choose KOF '99, KOF 2000(as of right now, no one has), or KOF 2001 as the best (strikers = meh, although I certainly have enjoyed those games, just nowhere near enough to be in the top 3), but I guess that's just me. :P

Here's my ranking:

1. KOF '98
2. KOF 2003
3. KOF 2002 (just barely under 2003)
4. KOF 2001
5. KOF 2000
6. KOF '99
7. KOF '97
8. KOF '95
9. KOF '96
10. KOF '94

I know it isn't developed by SNK Playmore, but I'm very interested in seeing where KOF Neo Wave will fit into this list. Likewise with KOF Maximum Impact. I didn't add KOF EX (bleh!) or EX2 (awesome!) to the list because I still consider them ports (of KOF 2000), even though KOF EX2 has several new characters.

voted 2003, but not just because they elevated my darling King to a high tier in the game... The tag system, the prerequisites to get a true ending... Sure Duo Lon is a bitch sometimes but overall I find it great. And the scary thing is there is SO much it can improve on even though it's already great.

Here's hoping KoF 2004 has actual effort in it and revolutionizes 2D gaming all over again. HUZZAH!
