Hope it's Ok to ask about Wonderswan here... I'm only curious because it kinda seems to have a similar "mystique" to it as the NGPC.

I know it's an all Japanese system, and has tons of good RPG's. But does it have any games that a non-Japanese speaking/reading person (like me, unfortunately) could enjoy? Can someone list some games or point me to a website with a list like that?

WS might make a cool sidekick to my NGPC stuff. Maybe.

I've played the following:

Be sure to get these:
Pocket Fighter- get used to the controls and you have a solid fighter.
Gunpey- original puzzler, very addicting.
Mr. Driller- nice time-waster
SD Gundam- Operation UC- kinda a hybrid shmup/bet-em-up, very fun and a lotta levels and mechs.

Maybe try these:
Puzzle Bobble- black-and-white but a decent port
Magical Drop- all the addictiveness of the Neo versions but black-and-white. New art style.
Gundam Volume 1 : SIDE7- kinda a strategy game with good graphics, it may be Japanese but you can figure it out quickly. Volume 2 has English menus, maybe get that. IIRC both are cheap.
Final Fantasy Series- they're cheap but make sure to get a good walkthrough...

Also, I've heard good things about the following:
Guilty Gear Petit 2- avoid #1 but #2 is really good
Tetris- what can be bad? I want it...
Beatmania- it sounds really fun, I want it badly.
MakaiMura- Ghouls and Ghosts. Hard but fun.

It's a great system, but I can also read and understand Japanese....so it may not be that way to you.

There's also a Guilty Gear game for the Wonderswan called Guilty Gear Petit. It's comprised of SD characters, and if I'm not mistaken there may actually be a second one already released or in development. Either way, GG Petit is worth checking out too.

I own a wonderswan, and it's a great system IMO, but if you're going to get one, be sure you buy the latest version (swan crystal) which has, by far, the best screen.

The games I own which are fun & playable:

One piece swan colloseum (Amazing fighting game)
Kinnikuman dream tag match (fun werstling game)
Inu Yasha fuun emaki (adventure-fighter)
Run Dim (shooter)
HunterxHunter(Adv with lots of jap text)
Side Pocket (B&W pool game)

I got the Wonderswan just to play the simulation games, the RPGs and the Visual Novel Theaters. I would recommend the following games only if you can read an inordinate amount of Japanese:

Debut for Wonderswan
Graduation for Wonderswan
Last Alive
Ring Infinity
Terrors
Terrors 2

Funny this topic just came up since I just got a WSC last week. It's awesome! I've got a few other games on order (I'm surprised no one mentioned Rockman WS yet). Swan Coliseum is cool, but there's only one attack button! The other is used for jump. Seems a bit random.

It's actually shocking how big the library for Wonderswan is (check the list at pocketdomain.net)

First off, kanakura, you've got mad vagina in your sig.

Now with that outta the way, I can say that I've been looking into this whole wonderswan thing as well. I've seen that dope Gundam game and GG on there and was thinkin about it. Is it worth getting even if you can't read japanese?

Both will play the same games, but as said, swan crystal has a MUCH better screen. The swan color's screen reminds me of the GBA's one. You'll need direct light in order to see something.
In fact, I wish I'd bought a swan crystal after trying it, but my budget wasn't too high.

Attack+directional buttons, and you'll get different attacks. Jump+attack+directional buttons and you get even more moves. Yeah, the game is quite simple, but that's one of the things I like of it, simple, fun and good looking!
So how is Rockman? Is it an original adventure or a snes/nes port?

Oh yes. Definitely. Some of the games are very heavy on the Japanese text, but most are playable enough.

One game to add to the recommended list; Digimon - There are a fair few of these - one of them is in English text but they're all pretty playable. A lot depends on what you think of the catch-em-all genre though.

And some B&W games are worth having too; Space Inavders, Crazy Climber, Rainbow Islands - all pretty faithfull arcade ports. Seeding Bird (not sure of the proper translation of the title) - classy puzzle game.

EDIT: And I'm not sure about the WSC version of Tetris. Gameplay seems broken to me - you can juggle pieces almost indefinitely by rotating them as they're about to land. Weird.

Cheers
Chris
