I would like replies to this thread for only those who use a Neo Geo CD system exclusively. You do not qualify if you have an AES or MVS system.... only CD system owners.

I am curious as to how many members enjoy the Neo through the CD medium only.

This was me, but I just got a NGH System a few weeks ago to enjoy new releases. But, over-all, all Neo games that are on both systems I get on CD and love them. And cheaper :glee:

Yup yup, big CD-fan here.

I'm updating the All About NEO GEO CD thread at the mo because all its links point to the ole' UBB ng.com, hope I can find a mod that makes it sticky afterwards, 16bit has turned into a NGCD forum anyway, which is great! :)

Edit: No, I'm not really "CD-exclusive", I also own a homecart system because I want to experience the best of both worlds.

a winar is me

i seem to be the only one who's "cd exclusive." i bought a used jap top loader with no box, no instructions, and a generic a/v cable, for $230 back in '99, and absolutely love the thing.

i have since then installed a region switch, bought a second controller (boxed for $50; i should have kept the box, crap!), and have amassed a great colection of u.s. versions of my favorite neo games.

i'm a die-hard cd supporter, and have zero interest in buying either a mvs, or the ngh. i don't appreciate having to pay $300+ per game, limited credits, or the beeps and clicks they call music. i'm not too keen on the brick sized cartiges either, cd's are just so damn sexy.

and as my custom rank used to say on the old board, i love them loading screens. serriously, i do. i love to see the often fullscreen artwork, while the progress bar slowly fills up. i love the sound the motor makes while doing so, lets me know my system is doing something.

I love the Neo Geo CD but I have an MVS cabinet too. It seems like most Neo CD owners here have either an MVS or home cart system also.

Since 1994, and it is still working????

Now, isnt that a testimony of fine engineering and manufacturing from SNK?

I own both the regular top loader and a CDZ. Both mint with box/user guide. Back in 1995 I had the AES system, but I traded it for a then new import Saturn. I was going to replace my AES when a friend suggested the CD system and I've been hooked ever since. Games are cheap and easy to find, the loading screen art on some of the games is cool, and the arranged sountracks put the icing on the cake.

Well I guess I sort of apply because I only had the Neo CD for many years until this year when I bought an MVS cab. I didn't mind it at all... obviously load times on the later era fighters were a bit annoying, and stayed away from any team play in KOF, etc, but for any non-figheters especially, it's underrated and definitely a good value. Plus I loved some of the remixed music in some of the games :)

I know I don't qualify to answer your question but I'm going to throw my two cents out there anyway.

The CD system kicks ass. Keep it ventilated and take a break from it every 2-3 hours and it'll last forever. My only knock on it is that it's library doesn't have any releases past '99.. unless you count 'Last Hope'.

I'm a New CDZ owner. I bought a new one off off eBay a month ago. Ive collected over 40 games thus far mostly mint with spine cards and have yet to play anything. ( i did test it when I got it to make sure it worked)

I got it as a present for myself for Christmas. I've wanted one soooooooooo long I wanted this year to be extra special.

I also opened up a separate bank account to save for the AES versions in the coming spring/summer. Im going to go ape shit.:buttrock:

I was a Neo CD-only guy in the 90s. When I bought KOF98 on Neo CD for $50 the AES was $250 and the MVS was $650. There was no Saturn version and the PS version is GARBAGE. Therefore, it all made sense. Neo CD wins!

Nowdays though...if what you want is the actual experience of playing the software, MVS is where its at. Period. It would be different if they had made the later games for Neo CD, but too many good titles got left out.

Its still worth having a Neo CD around though for the games where the CD music overcomes the annoyance of the load times, or if the CD version is cheaper than the MVS. Shooters, sports, etc.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't notice the necro-post...

I own a top loader system, and always enjoy it. Stick to games where the loading time isn't completely brutal, and you will have some good fun.

I do own an AES though, for those games that just don't exist on the neo geo cd

In the 90, when I only had the neo CD (lack of money), I was always wishing to get my hands over the "real one" every time a loading screen would appear in a fighting game :crying:
