i'd like to ask those of you crazy enough to have bought a neo geo cd on launch (or at least in the same year). i ask because as far as i recall, kof 94, and both samurai shodowns were launch titles (along with a whole lot more). i've noticed in the past that my kof 94 had no neo geo ball logo in the upper right corner of the case. well today i just got both samurai shodowns (thanks michael yagami) which also had no logos. this discovery led me to come up with my current theory; neo geo cd launch titles had no neo geo logos embossed on their jewel cases. am i right?

I think there was something about this recently....

what i can say for sure is that i got mine at launch (what u talking about crazy? lol ), it came with Fatal Fury 2 packed in, which has no logo.

Im going on the PAL release here, where you could choose FF2 or AOF as the game.

Launch title Burning Fight doesnt.

Top Hunter & thrash rally (november) also have none.

The NGCD was launched in Japan September 9,1994 with the NGCD frontload model (limited run) with 24 titles

ASO II (Alpha Mission 2)
Art Of fighting
Art of fighting 2
Baseball Star Professional
Baseball Stars 2
Burning Fight
Fatal Fury
Fatal Fury 2
Fatal Fury 2 special
Footbal Frenzy
Ghost Pilot
Joy Joy Kid (puzzled)
King of the monsters 2
Last Resort
Leagur Bowling
Nam 1975
Mahjong Kyo retsuden
Mutation Nation
Robo Army
Samurai Shodown
Super Sidekick 2
Super Spy, The
Top Hunter
Top Player Golf

The US system was released with the NGCD on Oct 95 with 50 titles (taken from a gamepro report, I will scan this in you can decide) FYI this is where a lot of the protos releases speculation came from at first. Also it lists titles in there that never made a English release. Anyone think there may be some NGCD protos out there as well wink

oh and I guess to answer your question I did not pick up a NGCD on launch. I did get one before the US release though. I traded a Apple 630CD computer I picked up for $50 and put $60 fixing for a Japanese NGCD Frontloader. Later I bought 1 when SNKUSA was closing out on them with some games and later I bought another when the offered the deal again.

whoa! thanks for the history lesson bruno. but that still didn't answer my question: "did launch titles have the neo geo ball logo on their jewel cases or NOT?" wink

but you do raise an intriguing point: neo geo cd protos. VERY interesting indeed. spock

personally i do hope that some exist, like ports of some of the mvs/ngh releases that never made it to cd, like garou :D

Sorry I do not have the answer 100% to that one. I will say I do personal own a few titles that do not have the Neo Geo ball logo on the jewel case, however it been so long I do not recall if I bought them that way or if i bought them used and the jewel case was replaced (by either myself or the seller). I will say of the 9 titles I own that are still sealed they have the Neo Geo ball logo. but they are more recent titles not from the initial launch.

i figured providing people with the Launch info may give people titles to look at :)

the subject was covered sometime ago here, you may want to search the archives to see what else you can find.

I will also say I have come across HK rips and re-wraps over the years of buying Neo GEo cd's. Usually I notice the Manuals are Thicker of the HK rips because the paper used is a thicker grade. as well as with any jewel case you replace it with what you have in stock (my TSS cd the jewel case was replaced with one w/o the logo because the orginal was cracke) although swaping the jewel case with a SSRPG jewel case is really no big deal as well :) I do think sometimes the cd release were Spotty with the logo ball and on some occasions SNK used cases without the logo. but that is just speculation.

Hope that helps

Didn't the US top loader come with Samurai Showdown 2? Or at least that's how most stores sold it.

When I bought mine brand new in Los Angeles CA, it came with my choice of any game. In this case, I picked Sam Sho 3. I remember that day with fondness....:D
