i was just dustin' off my neo cd collection, inspecting its condition, noticing which games i purchased used or new.

well i noticed a funny thing while i was at it, i'm 100% sure purchased kof 94 brand new, but my jewelcase doesn't have the 'neo geo' logo etched into the corner.

is this a normal thing, was it left off due to the fact this was one of the first neo cd titles, or should i go hunt down the guy who sold me this "new" game and rip his balls off?

My KoF94 has that logo, I bought it a month or two after release, but not brand-new/sealed, so I can't tell wether it's the original case.

I have heard from a few trustworthy ppl that they bought sealed CDs without the logo. I've also heard that there were 2nd or 3rd production runs of certain titles that sold very well (KoF95, FF3, etc.), perhaps these had no logo, but that doesn't really make sense IMO.

Anyway, sadly it's a common practice that ppl who sell NGCDs use the Neo logo covers to complete their own collection and stuff the games in standard jewel cases before putting them on ebay. There are collectors who even buy cheap games to get their hands on another bunch of original cases, that's why there are a huge number of KoF94/95, NAM, SS1, FF3 and AoF2 without Neo logos.

The fact that a CD is sealed doesn't mean much, every bigger games store or reseller has a sealing machine... a new jewelcase, a bit of foil, and there you have your "rare, brand-new" Neo CD game...

Hm, but the neo cd seal is different - it has a pull strip to open it.

Anyways, I bought a JPN trash rally, and it didn't have the special case either.

Odd.

the little neo geo Emblem on the top right is not on all releases.

when I first started dealing in neo CD's 2 years ago.... I saw this for the 1st time.

Well... Aero Fighters 2 US doesn't seem to have them (and I bought a batch 2 years ago that didn't either) but they were new.

Many other games do not have that little embossed logo too... and they were all new.

I am not sure what titles were lucky to get that emblem... but maybe after a certain point, SNK thought that it was more of a cost than they wanted to spend... I don't know the real reason why they stopped.

anyway if its sealed with the "pull strip" plastic... meaning there is a pull strip to get the plastic wrap off (unlike the saturn, psx, gcn, ps2, xbox games of today) it is 99.9% for sure new :)

edit note.... I bought a batch of KOF 94's 2 years ago too.. they didn't have the logo's either :) they were US/NEw

thanks for the info guys. i bought the game brand new, but it was fairly recently so i know it must have been a later pressing. i can't seem to recall if it had a pull strip for the shrinkwrap though. but i guess my fears of getting ripped are put to rest.

Plisken:
Logo Embossed cases did not exist until KOF'95.
Not sure about this. SNK wasn't exactly the most predictable company when it comes to things like that.

AFAIK, KoF94 CD was released in Nov (Dec?) 1994, about month after the cart release, and a 2nd run was made in the first quarter of 95, so there may be a number of KoF94 CDs with the logo.

Btw., a guy I know who runs a small video game shop has a couple of KoF94 CDs on stock and two of them have the logo (talked to him on the phone on Sat).
