I was wondering who is REALLY bothered by the neo CD load time.

I love the neo CD.... just as much as I love me AEs and MVS systems.... but the CD load time never got to me.

I guess it was the anticipation of the next level or round...etc.

IS there anyone else out there that loves the neo cd?

I won't play late model fighters on it, but I love to play shooters and puzzlers - and the prices can't be beat - pulstar for 90$? I'll take it!

lol.

you know what I bought the US metal slug 1 and US pulstar for?
$50 = Ms1
$40 = pulstar :D

I also love viewpoint on it :)

windjammers, MS1/2, pulstar, viewpoint, aero fighters... and more do not have bad load times at all!

You bet.

Btw., that reminds me to update my NGCD FAQ some day... I have read so much of ppl's questions about the CD in the last six months that it fills another chapter of it...

About the load times, well, let ppl whine about them all they want, I never had a prob with it. If all the cool Neo games ain't worth the lil' extra waiting I don't know what is.

That said, let me stress that playing stuff like KoF on CD is different to the cart. When I'm on a winning streak and just landed a real dream combo, there's this great adrenaline rush I get from it that carries over to the next round, while on CD, the load time between two rounds let me calm down a bit and re-think my strats, so my gameplay on CD is a lil' more technical, strategic.

However, the extras of many CD games alone are well worth the money, and I'm not only talking about unlimited continues... wink

How does the load time compare to say, Sony Playstation? I remember the load times for that console were pretty long, but because rarely did you have to play a fighter for it that loaded the stage all the time like King of Fighters would, due to the environment changes, I think they were mostly negligible, right? I remember when playing a game like Tomb Raider, the load times were quite noticeable.

The load times in the NeoCD really suck worse than the PSX.

NO KIDDING! The two can't even be compared!

Playing KOF'99 or LB2 is absolutle torture!

Most of the older games are tolerable, but the initial load times remind me of playing games on the C64. :)

the loading on cd even loads between rounds on the same stage (yes it is that much more) and at the beginning of ss2 it loads about 1 1/2 minutes

Come on people, best things come to those who wait? Or something like that! loco

I own all the CD games, but also own lots of MVS games, and wouldn't part with either system even tho I have some of the same games on both formats! The reason is I get equall amounts of enjoyment from both, yeah the CD has an issue with loading sometimes, but what about the superior sound with the CD system! How about the groovy Combat School mode in the Metal Slug's on CD! Not to mention the only Hentai title (Final Romance 2) only available to CD! How else can you play the excellent Brikenger! Or the 19YY Shoot-em-up game starring Broken from World Heroes (ADK World) only on CD! Zintrick anyone? loco

At the end of the day, it's all about the love for anything NEO-GEO, I wouldn't pass up the chance to miss any games or bits of hardware, so for me i'll always defend the ill-fated CD. Playmore..release Matrimelee on CD!! Go on I dare ya! loco

There's a bit of info about load times on neogeocd.com. Judge for yourself... :D

I have a few early games and the loading doesn't bother me one bit. It's so much cheaper than aes and even neo pocket. Whilst its loading think how much money you have saved it makes it worth while.
Although I haven't yet received any games newer than fatal fury 3.

Hey, I own a NeoCD as well, and have no plans to part with it. On the other hand, I don't play any games on it that I have on MVS. wink

I am not bothered by the long loading times,
but I can't stand playing fighters on it.

It is a good machine to play non-figthers only
IMO.

I agree!! For those of us (especially in the UK) where AES is very expensive, the option of CD is a good alternative. Just avoid playing any newish fighters if you can. loco

Now, im off for a quick game of Crossed Swords 2! loco

The load times really don't bother me that much. I regularly play Last Blade and Real Bout 2 on my CDZ. I have found that my patience has greatly improved as a result of my Neo CD gaming, and for me thats a good thing.

I cannot play Last Blade in a CD system, even if it is a CDZ one, it simply gets on my nerves in the end.

If I loose a match I want to play again very fast, so the load time in some games make me very angry.

I even hate Pulstar on Cd, it has quite long loads for me. The game is hard so you need to re-load quite often.

The one who decided to build the CD system up with a single speed disc should be shot. And the mental giant who decided to improve the CDZ just with more Ram should be kicked in his balls many times and then double shot.

CD is a good chance for old titles mostly.

Well, back then when SNK started to think about a CD add-on for the Neo that got canned in favour of the NGCD (around 1992 according to my sources), CD-ROM drives weren't as common as they are today. I guess a 4x CD-ROM in the Neo would have more than doubled the retail price of an already high-priced console (AFAIK it sold for $600 back in 1994).

I just think that KOF'97->99 and Last Blade 1&2 are horrible, it's too long... I was happy when some of them where out on DreamCast...
But I would add that Neo Geo CD helped me to discover the pleasure of being a SNK Fan.
Thanks SNK, Thanks NGCD

Orpheus.... I got that back when it was retailing and new CD games were being made. No way that could happen anymore. I saw it in the store... I took one look at it and the back, and I FELL in love :D Same thing happened with Metal Slug. I bought that for $50 brand new (US). Saw it in that same retail store. THEN I ended up finding 2 Sam Sho3 CD's new... and a brand new KOF 98 with the calander.... lol... I spent about $30 on those 3 items and I traded up for a basically new Sam Sho 4 neo geo CD.

MAN... I had that sam sho 4 on pre-order for a year... but it never did show up :( finally they got one in though. They kept telling me... its coming soon... "we should be getting it soon" etc.

I play the crap outta that game for the next few weeks.. and I still play it a lot to date.

Yes, the fighter load time is not the greatest, but everything else is perfect :)
BTW.. everything seems to look better on the neo cd too.. especially with the S-video cable... MAN what a difference.

Isn't that the truth. The neo cd svideo is simply fantastic - it amazes me that such an old system had svid output, when even newer ones like the dreamcast don't even have it!
