So I just got my geo back from Jeff with the S-video/dbug mod. Holy molely! Its like a totaly new console. When I just started into the Neo Geo stuff several months back I questioned the benifits of the mods, if only I knew.

To anyone that doesn't have it done, and has a tv that can do s-video, well you know what I'm going to say

In any case, thanks Jeff.

Wow!

I've seen jeff say that he could, but I don't remember why he doesn't do it. I know he said he was going to try/had tried it on one of his machines. Maybe he could clarify?

I can do Component Video, but I haven't been able to locate nice looking (gold) R, G, and B panel mount jacks. If someone knows where I can get these, let me know. I don't want to use some crappy DIN jack and make a special cable. As with all my mods, I want to use industry standard cables.

I'm also going to be offering DIGITAL AUDIO here soon.

Dolphinlord - Most likely Coaxial since the jack would be easier to install as a mod and will keep costs down.

koolking - drop me a line (jmkurtz@macola.com) and I'll give you all the details that you need.

Hell yes there is a difference! The S-video mod that Jeff Kurtz does is absolutely amazing. It is well worth the price!

Has the Status on the componant video Mods changed? Or you still can't find the parts to do it? Also, what is your opinion of the mod? does it make the picture look better then the S-video mod? Thanks,

Matt

I have decided to hold off on it for now to see if any of these other tech-heads around here can do it since everyone seems to be offering SVideo now... Time to weed out the people that know what they are doing -vs- the people that are just doing mods because they know how to solder some pieces together.

BTW: Even though it's still stereo, the clarity of the Neo hooked up to a digital audio receiver is very nice

So you feel like everyone has ripped off your s-video tech and you don't want that to happen to your component mod? That's too bad. I was really looking forward to getting my new neo modded with this.

Jeff:

Sooner or later I was going to send my Neo in to have you do a full mod job on it, and I was wondering can you do cart slot replacements too? I currently and using a temporary solution to use my Phantom converter, but that won't last forever.

Force - I'll offer it someday. I can do the digital audio now since it uses several digital IC's which if I remove the ID's, it can't be duplicated easily. It's not really cost effective yet though. This is a mod for only the serious gamers since it's not very simple.

GohanX - Yes, I can replace slots, but it's not cheap. It's a lot of work and the slots are expensive ($20 for the set + labor).

I question the quality of S-video on 2D graphics. I have my DC hooked up to S-video and when I play Last Blade 2 and KoF '98, they graphics appear very blocky. 3D graphics look beautiful with S-video.

I could be wrong with the Neo on S-video, however, as I haven't seen it yet.

Greg, while it is true that older 2D games can look pixelly with s-video input (on DC or the Neo itself), the mod is still very much worth it. The color bleed on composite video connection is pretty bad, degrading the quality of the picture substantially. The s-video mod for the Neo Geo home cart system is VERY much worth it . . .

That happens on a lot of devices when using S-Video, Laser Discs especially.

You need to buy a Digital Comb Filter if your serious about using S Video for a lot of stuff, it'll make the S-Video picture as perfect as it can get. They aren't cheap tho, i'm not an expert on them but they can run around 100 dollars.

If your gonna go that far, you might as well use something like RGB that looks better anyways.

My 2 cents, but I have a Sony Wega XBR 400 and the svid quality on it from DC or anything is phenominal, course the new 34 hdtv xbr is out and I suggest it highly. If you dont think that the svid is different your probably using a JVC, RCA or Panisonic. Get a Sony or Hitachi ot Mitsubish TV with SVIDEO and componet video you wont be happier.

I'm jump on and also say how S-video rocks hard. Great thing is, you can switch between the two on my TV (since you can of course have both hooked up at the same time) just to see the difference. There's so much color bleeding going on with the regular hook ups, it's not even funny.

Much better looking in S-video.

When you decide to do this mod, how much is it going to have both done? Also will you be able to have multiple outs? Will you be able to do both S-video and component on one Neo Geo? Same for Digital Audio and Stereo?

I know it's asking for a lot, but damn that would be REALLY COOL!!!

The name for this moded Neo would sound something like a Capcom title Super Hyper Turbo Neo Geo!!!

I will be modding Neo's with Component (RGB) Out too quite soon. Right now, I do the Kpj "Mega Mod" which comes with S-Video, Stereo L/R, Debug Bios, & Power LED. I know this is not very different from others, I just wanted to let you people know that I mod them too.

Thanks,
Kenny

oh, I almost forgot....Yes, I will be able to wire a Neo with S-Video & Component so you can select between the two; similar to a DVD Player.
