I posted this in another thread but thought it might be a good general discussion topic on it's own. Anyone Own or ever see one of these?

I found this on a Yahoo auction over 1 year ago. I did not buy it at the time and now thinking back on it can not think why I did not. It looks like it was a normal MVS board except for the 2 Jammas and 4 control port openings in the front. Now I can not quite make out the Date on the board so I am going to Guess 1996. Mainly Because that is when Kizuna Came out. So my Theory is that this was the board that was used for 4-player Kizuna and there is no Proto 4-Player Kizuna made. In fact I will even say that every Kizuna is equip for 4-player as long as it is plugged into this board. Of course Kizuna really is the only game that makes Sense since games like League Bowling, riding heros etc. require an addition screen of data while Kizuna would share the same screen. Unless it was used for 3 count bout :) Now that is not to say it could not be used for 2 player fighters on different cabs as well.

now can anyone tell me what cart is plugged into it?

Since it have 2 JAMMAs, it could be plugged to 2 monitors (cocktail cabs), no?

well since jamma passes all the info I imagine it was designed for 2 Cabs. Else it would just be a Type II setup. Wonder what FTC stands for (Fighting Tournament Connector) *Stab in the dark*

So what is the game in it? Anyone?

It reads *kanji* Suupaa Fuun Bateru - It's Kizuna. (well by hiragana reading can be wrong, I guessed some characters, since I don't remeber them all correctly)

Hey thanks,

so if it is a Normal Kizuna then that would mean that Kizuna is setup for 4-players.

Now for you Hardware/Bios/Rom hackers. could there be a Bios/hardware fix to add 2 more controlers to the Home system to play 4 players? Maybe via a daughter board the Bios plugs into which in turns plugs into the Bios rom socket. Just Ideas, Hardware is not me Speciality :glee:

This is keeping my mind of the SSVS stuff so keep posting.

Well, Considering that kanji, the cart can be that proto special Kizuna - I don't know how the kanji fits un the japanese Kizuna name.

A believe that board have a special bios, designed for Kizuna. SNK didn't used any kind o 'scalable' bios. I wouldn't be suprised if that board works only with Kizuna - or even only with a japanese Kizuna.

Correcting:

Suupa Taagu Batoru - The kanji must stands for "Fuun". It's really a 'default' Kizuna cart, I think.

well if it is a Jamma Splitting board that plugs into the MVS1B it should be the same Bios as the 1B. If it is a special MVS board then it would have a special Bios I would think. I kinda leaning on the Splitting board as Lithy linked in his post. Just because of the Naming.

On that game itself. With the printed label it does not appear to be a proto from my experience. But that is from personal experience.

I actually asked !arcade! to look into making a special board for 4-player Kizuna while back. But I think it ended up being to much work for what it was worth.

Thanks! I did researched some char tables after my post and found that the Katakana that I misread was a TA, not a FU :p

Good work for you too, you were pretty damn close.

Now the big question is, is BB's theory correct? Is the FTC1B a proto (Kizuna) 4 player MVS set-up? The fact that the cart in the picture lends a lot of weight to that theory.

The cart looks like the regular JPN MVS kizuna cart a friend of mine has. But perhaps the 4 players special version doesn't differ from the exterior.

Its a normal kizuna cart, all kizunas hold the program data of the special 4 players version.

About the board:

I dont think its just a splitter attached on a normal 1B board since under the "NEO-FTC18" part is written "MAIN BOARD" also it should has an expecially designed bios like that irritating maze trackball game.

And I'm really inclined to believe that board is a complete MVS board, not only a daughterboard for the 1B, due what was pointed by Metallizer.

Its possible to turn on the right dip banks and get the rom to run in the 4 player OK! mode :P

I don't remember which ones, metallizer was messing with it. Its a regular Kizuna cart, the board has to JAMMA edges to output to 2 cabinets. Running the game off one board will be much smoother than running it through a stereo link cable like riding hero or league bowling. So the board only really oks the right dips as far as I know, since the KE is a regular cart.

well the reasons I am now thinking it could be Conenction board are as follows

1) the blue cable connecting into the board (why have this if it is all one board then they can just integrate that in the traces)

2) the naming. all MVS boards including IM are named Neo-MV?

Just some thought. Wish I had a picture of the bottom of it.

well since the last NGH has rolled off the production line I have to think about what next needs to come out To make the most out of my home system ;)

yes, to make a regular kizuna cart boot up like the special version, just turn on dip 7 and 8 on bank1 in developers mode. Its impossible to control the 3p and 4p unfortunately.

Is that a restriction of the emulator or of something going on trying to run it with those banks turned on?

There should be some 4p emulators out there right ;)

I don't think so, all NG emus so far treat the system as a 2p system.

But maybe Raz can give a call to nebula guys to fix this out, only for Kizuna ;)
