A mate of mine shot his wife dead last night, apparently got drunk, went home into an argument and shot here twice with a 9mm pistol, then turned himself in to the police.
I was with him earlier in the day, he didnt show any signs of aggro towards her or anyone else. But he had a history of agressive behaviour.
What a bummer :oh_no:

My thoughts are with her family.
Also prison food is not good here.

I wonder how many posts it will take to turn this into a guns/alcohol should be banned thread.

Guns and alcohol should be banned! j/k

Seriously though guns and anger is nothing to play around with. Sorry such a thing had to happen.

That's really fucked up, to state the obvious. I had a friend that could get really aggressive after only a few beers - it's strange how alcohol affects some people.

i've always felt that a married man should not need a gun in his house at all. and this situation prooves it. my dad used to own guns and when he married my mom they were gone, then after they divorced the guns were back in his house. my stepdad owned all sorts of hunting rifles and when he got married they went away. married man=no guns simple as that. it's cases like this that really piss me off when a man lacks the balls to control his anger.

No kidding...I've seen what a few beers did to my bro and he paid the price by doing the prison time for a few years. Turns sensible people into monsters :oh_no:

My dad has his fair share of guns, and an absolutely hellacious temper sometimes - but he's never struck my mom, and (hopefully) never seriously considered shooting her with them.

I don't think it's fair to say that married men should never have guns in their house. I'd like to be able to protect my wife if a couple of goons should ever walk in with evil intentions. If I get that pissed off, I'll punch a hole in the wall or something.

This guy always carried his pistol in a concealed holster, many do here for "protection/self defence" (I choose not to) So it wasnt really a guns at home issue in this case.
He used to show bravado and pull the gun out when drunk :shame: but we never thought that he would use it, especially on his wife.
I dont know if the pistol was licienced or not- its besides the point now.
The whole thing is just so damned sad for everyone concerned.

In New Guinea, everyone can just carry a gun in a holster? I wouldn't necessarily blame the alcohol, I would blame your stupid friend more. He probably wanted to kill her for some time, while drunk he could give some sort of a allaby(sp?). I don't know, shit happens man. Now you'll friend will pay for the mess he created.

Thanks for the kind words tsukaesugi.

I totally agree AztecNinja. I still find it hard to come to terms with.

In PNG you require a licence to carry a firearm legally, this licence comes with the gun, so its not the individual but the weapon that is licened. Guns are concealed for obvious reasons, people do not walk around wild west style with six shooters.
Many carry unlicenced or even home made firearms around, this is a symptom of the break down of law and order. There are heaps of guns out there that have been stolen from the police and defence force. M16s and other nasty shit.

Anyway thats another topic, I just felt I needed to post on last nights event.
I dont want to get into the morals of gun ownership. As I mentioned earlier I do not carry or even own a gun.

The fact is: Guns and alcohol can make people stupid, but to act on that stupidity they needed to be a total moron in the first place. Guns and alcohol didn't make your friend kill his wife, he (himself) made him do it.

My condolences. I think that living with his guilt will be worse than actually committing the crime.

that's really sad, I'm sorry to hear. Did he ever show signs of violence towards her before? or threaten to kill her? That hits too close to home...

Possibly so, but he had a choice in the matter - she didn't.
