Ok..Today the Overlay and Super Joysticks + buttons came in the mail..(from two different sellers)
(The needed Carriage Bolts and............. 2nd set of Supers will be here today)
MKGOLD_008.jpg

This overlay is nice..and I'm really in shock that I actually got it in "Gold".

I'd say it's a tad bit darker then the original but nothing out of the ordinary..(I could care less)
With this overlay on a newly painted control panel with new sticks/buttons is going to look sweet.

((Things to know..if you decide to get something like this.))

I have to cut the holes out...using a knife and It's not going to be easy..(the seller states to use an X-acto knife that I need to buy)
I'd say if your not good at using such a blade you may want to consider getting someone else to do it...or you may screw it up.

It's pretty close in thickness to the original to compare..

The Colored Film size is I'd say 99% to the original..It has a thin clear border around the edges...that matches the old overlays size.
This is an overlay film sandwiched between 2 sheets of 10mil laminate ...

[If I had anything to say that I'm stumped about is the CREDIT led locations.]
Since this is one piece of Film and those square holes for the Red Leds to show through are not cut..I'm not sure what to do about that..
If I cut a square out to show the LEDs It'll lose the Red color on the overlay..
If I place the new overlay on top of the old one and cut the red squares out of the new overlay and use the below overlay It may not look right.
I don't think I can cut away the white film from the back without ruining the Red.

I may have to live without the LEDs showing "providing" they don't illuminate through the film..Something you'll have to consider when buying any of this type of overlay.
Being that this is the hard to get gold overlay I'll live with it...but you may not want to..
I won't know if they'll don't illuminate through the film until I set this all up.

It's pretty durable..It's not going to wear out quick with it's top layer of plastic.
............................
(((Information From seller and added info from me..

Because the overlay film is sandwiched between 2 sheets of 10mil laminate the holes have to be cut very carefully with a NEW sharp X-acto knife by placing it between the metal control panel and the top plastic or old overlay plastic. If it isn't sharp some separation may occur around the holes, but it will be covered by the buttons. We have done about 200 overlay replacements with no major problems.
They also had the 2 slot marquee for the cabinet in the picture. (That would be the Gold Two Slot Marquee)
..............................................................................
As for the mini red cabinet overlay. If we had a sample I could send it out to be made. It can even be in poor condition, as long as the layout of the buttons are still intact.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You'll have to try and provide him with a sample or...(It's a start)(Considering after what you read above and below)

.......................................................................................................

Please NOTE:
I had a successful transaction "off" of Ebay with this seller..
I sent money in good faith that I wouldn't be ripped off.
I have done other business in the Past with this seller..I'd say about year ago..Ebay though.
All my Ebay transactions went well..
The seller got back to me by the next day with Overlay Questions,BUT I didn't ask a ton of them...
I was trying not to be a pain when the seller was doing me a favor ordering this from another source.
The seller does not have these in stock(as he states) and will have to order it/them for you..

I did not push/ask about the overlay after I sent payment..(In other words I didn't bug the seller "where the Heck is my Overlay"

You do whatever you like when dealing with this seller..
I'm trying to offer info for members to get these overlays and I'm trying not to make it a pain for this seller for this"Gold" overlay is not something the seller offers..
Basically what I wrote above is the same thing the seller knows.

I'm "NOT"going to say..Deal with this seller I got you back..
I don't know him....
You make your own choice..If you decide to send people money over the internet off of EBay anything can happen..
(I scan everything I sent to the seller for proof)

Though my transaction went well,I'm not telling you to send your money to this seller..That's none of my business.

If you decide on getting this type of overlay please read above before you make a decision..You may not be happy with what you get.
I'm trying not to ruin this for everyone ..if this seller gets sales and people thought they were getting something else because they decided not to read what I wrote then he just may decide not to even bother getting anything anymore.
(I'm not the seller..I can't read his mind.)

I also didn't try to cash in on this/I didn't buy several to resell then for more then the $30.00 + $6.00 I paid for Priority shipping....
I'm offering this info to everyone..You do what you want.

This seller I guess can name his own price,Maybe he might be cheaper for bulk orders...(?)

Hmm,...

That's the place I seen selling a Red 2 slot,a Red 4 slot and now has a Red 6 slot up for auction with some desirable games in it..

NEO GEO 6 SLOT Video Arcade Game-INCLUDES 6 GAMES
SAMURIA SHOWDOWN 4, PUZZLE BOBBLE, WORLD HEROES JET 2, AERO FIGHTERS, METAL SLUG X , AND DRIFT OUT

If I lived near that company "I'd" try and manuver at least a few of those games from that seller..Or make a trade...;)

Wow, Chris, thanks for the info! I've been looking for a Gold Cab CPO for as long as I can remember. This should be really helpful. I hope I can get one :)

In regards to the cutting, they make drill bits for circles, ya know? Would it be possible to get the bits in the right size? I'm not so worried about the button holes since the button will cover that, but I'd like the joystick hole to be precise.

My only concern is the bits may melt the CPO. I've worked with some in the past, and I'm worried the friction may cause it to melt. It's happened before with other materials. What do you think? Does it seem...meltable? :annoyed:

If I don't check back soon, PM me please. I forget to check this forum sometimes. Thanks again.

Hi Sith05,...Your Welcome..
I'd say you can still get one from this seller..
I did tell him to expect more orders..He may have ordered more then one.
He seems to have a direct connection to get these all the time..
But,then it's so hard to get in this color I'd grab one if you can soon.

Yea,I was thinking about a hole drill..I think I may have one in my old tool box at my moms place.
It's a great idea..I think it will work on a low speed setting on a hand drill..
Shoot,I'd be able to drill this at my old job or my dads garage..(Drill Press)
But,I want to try and do it myself with a hand drill or knife so I can give an explanation to how to do it to anyone who asks that may not have access to a drill press etc...

I've been working on another project today that's kept me pretty busy.
If I don't have that hole drill I'm going to buy one..

Thanks George...

Yea..I really like it,even my wife said it's really nice looking on the cab just sitting on it.

I'm anxious to get it all fitted in,but I want to take my time painting the control panel..

I have to do some thinking on the credit led part..There might be some way to do it..
After I start cutting holes I'll know more..
...................
..I totally got off tracked today when I got this lil Dumpster dive find..

MKGOLD_010.jpg

My goal today was to figure out a way to use fix this..
The cut wire is no problem (RCA Jacks)

I tried to just put in a new stick/shaft from a Sanwa joystick but the broken shaft joystick in it was to small for any changes and not really made to be fixed(Cheap Crap)

I was going to just wire it up to a control panel or other joystick I have around here..
But it needs to be 4 way only..So I used one of my spare 4-8 way switchable Sanwa sticks.
This way I can switch it back to eightway when I want to use the controller for the AES.(two screws)

I'm making the Xbox stick with plugs so that it will work on an AES system and this lil Namco system.
MKGOLD_011.jpg

I'm wiring up the fire button on the lil Namco TV system to the A button on the Xbox controller..
The Namco unit will be set up with plugs so I can unplug it..but

I'm taking the Namcos internals and putting them in this controller..
MKGOLD_014.jpg

It works..I was playing it earlier.
I Have it roughly wired up just to get it working..

It has very small leaf Arcade type switches for the joystick and buttons.I'm just taking those wires off those switches..putting a plug on the end and wiring it to the switches in the Xbox contrioller.

This is my first and latest dual project..
I just need the wire for the AES to finally get here.

Chris1,

Forget using an exacto knife to cut holes. The control panel will be nice and solid, but the knife will cut into your old overlay too easily and be trouble unless you're used to working with knives in that way.

You should really look into getting a 1 1/8 hole saw or a 1 1/8 forstner and use a drill press. Or just a hand drill if you've got one with decent power and steady hands.

A drill will cut through them in a pretty short order. The bit will heat up and melt the plastic some, but it should be at the very edges of the holes and shouldn't be any problem. Usually running a carpet knife around the inside of the edge real quick after you've drilled the hole cleans it up nice.

My 1 1/8 forstner bit goes through 1/8 and 1/4 acrylic without too much effort(a little more muscle is required when hand drilling). It would easily be able to cut through something like that overlay though.

Just sandwich the new overlay between the old one and a nice flat piece of wood. Might want to use clamps to hold them. Then use the old overlay as a hole guide and cut down into the new overlay and the wood.

Just how opaque are the red squares for the LEDs? Are they even slightly transparent or are they completely a solid red?

Even if they are a solid red color, I'd expect the 7 segment LEDs to shine through without much trouble. I wouldn't cut the holes until you tried lying the overlay on the panel and seeing what it looks like with the credit displays lit.

Thanks man..I'm going to do it the way you suggest..

Thank you for the info..

Late last night I put the overlay up to a light and I can see light through the red squares for the LEDs..Not much but it may show some of the Leds through it.
Since I have all this stuff totally disconnected/Leds etc I can't check in that cab..
Later today I'm going put the overlay over the LEDs in the Big red and see If I can see and LED light show through..

Thanks again, Chris. I replied VIA PM.

Good suggestion, Green. I think that'd be best too. I was worried about the melting, but I think it will still work out pretty well. Good luck, Chris. Keep us posted.

For cutting something as thin as that replacement overlay I would recommend using a forstner bit over a hole saw because it is less aggressive.

And before you go cutting into the real deal I HIGHLY recommend drilling a few practice holes in a scrap piece of acrylic to get a feel for the whole process. It will cut through that overaly quicker and easier than the acrylic, but it will at least give you a feel as to what you are in for.

Update:

I put the Gold overlay over the Red overlay in my Big Red and the ..
LED lights "Do" show through...

That's overlay over overlay..So when it's just Leds to overlay the Led brightness will even be more intense..

I'd say you lose about 10% of the LED brighness using this type of overlay.

So it should be ok on a gold cab then?
Have you tried it on the gold yet?

Great...Just the guy I wanted to get this info to...and the site just went down when I found this out.

I haven't tried it yet on the neo gold since all of the parts to do it are out of the cab..
But I'm going to set it up to do it..(later today/pic)

I could clearly see the LEDs by placing the overlay over the reds overlay...(To my surprise)

So by itself the leds will show through just fine....Good news)

I'm going to do it again and take a pic(try)

It was hard to take the picture with the flash on..The flash kept blocking out the LED light..
So I turned the flash off..If you look real good you can see my fingers on the left holding down the overlay.. :p

LED light is polarized. So even though light from a bulb might not shine through the red spots on the overlay all that well, an LED should appear much brighter when viewing it through the overlay.

I suspected Chris1 would be able to see it even though it appears the repro Gold overlay is fairly opaque. That's why I sugested he test first and cut (if necessary) dead last.

Hey,..Move sticker on top huh..
It sort of breaks up the plainness I see when I look at the top of the Neo Geo..\
Not bad..

Hmmm,
I think I could get a move sticker to stay up there without sticking it on by putting it under the metal bracket that holds the glass in..or behind it..

I just want to break up the plainness ....it looks more Arcade like with the sticker there.

Nice machine Jorge.....Thanks for showing it to me..
