Here's hoping it's jus as hard as the first one if not harder.
This and mvc 3 is going to take up my whole month putting dcu on hold for now.

From the video released this week, it looks bat-shit insane. In a fun way, mind you... but not in a Hard Corps way. That being said, I'm pretty down as long as the demo is good. I can definitely see why they removed Contra from the title, though.

hoping that the game takes place concurrently with THE ALIEN WARS and the hero is the villain of Hard Corps (both are named Bahamut, sooo)

Damn, I was expecting this to be about a sequel to Jean-Claude Van Damme's direct-to-video movie The Hard Corps.

From the first batch of reviews coming in, you are not going to have to worry about it not being difficult enough, especially if you have a go at it on the arcade setting where you are limited to 3 lives for the whole game.

difficult is what scares me. i will try the demo, if it's too difficult i will wait for a price drop...

I'll probably pass on it completely, as per the early reviews. The arcade mode sounds near impossible to finish. Maybe the Konami code will be in it or something, but 3 guys and no continues doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me.

Just a matter of memorization. Haven't read reviews, but if it's on part with the difficulty in Shattered Soldier, it's managable. I played the hell out of SS and once you learn patterns, it's not so bad.

Guys, the Arcade mode with 3 guys and no cont. is not the only mode of play as far as I know. Unless you wish to put yourself thru such torture.

It's amazing that Konami found a way to add a form of grinding to this game. That said, it's actually quite good. 15 for the base game and 5 for the other 2 characters.

Each one has sets of powerups you can buy (extra HP/extra lives) as well as various techniques you can use. Out of the box, bahamut has more HP and is kinda slow and Krystal is like a guilty gear crack whore with less health and the ability to airdash cancel shoot.

This game is amazing! I'm lucky my brother was with me for one more day to play this. Considering all the 2D animation and rocking music, it's worth way more than $15, so I can't blame them for charging extra for the other two characters. The last thing I need it more characters to upgrade at this point anyway. The only problem is the voices are terrible and they can't be changed, but I'm getting used to them.

So, am I missing something? Is there no way to lock your shot in one direction? The chase boss is frustrating having to throw the stick back (and move back into him) while being chased. Seems like a real simple mechanic they forgot to add. That, and fuck them for a death there meaning I have to go back and play the entire sand segment again. Cheap death in the sand levels, too, thanks to not being able to stand still for more than 3 seconds is not really any fun. Lot of potential here, and it looks fantastic, but this looks like it is going to be more frustration than fun for me. I guess you could play the Uprising mode and forgo the Arcade experience all together, but then 80% of the achievements are in Arcade. It's the mode you were meant to play...

Sigh... Maybe if it goes half price, but I'm not spending $15 to be pissed off.

I didn't try shooting backward, but you could lock the shooting direction diagonally by holding the left trigger. The right trigger will hold the character still while you can aim in any of the 8 directions (just like in SS).

I thought the animations were unimpressive. Even Contra 4 looked better. It hardly felt like a Contra game actually. It reminded me a lot of Strider 2 on PS1.

I only played the demo with my friend for a few minutes, so I can't comment on the gameplay.

RT locks your direction of firing. LT let's you strafe and hold what direction you shoot

See, I knew I was missing something. I'll have to give it another go tonight. I do have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see 3 continues offered in the Arcade mode. It's not as hard core as I thought it was going to be, but it is pretty damn hard, nonetheless. Hopefully the trigger-lock will help me beat the chase boss.
