Update: Adjusting to $35,000. I want to kill my biggest part of the loan at least. This will exclude the arcade unless someone is willing to pay the full $85,000 (mainly cause of shipping)

It's a long shot but I'm putting my life's collection on eBay to eliminate my student loans. When me and my girlfriend (now wife) went to college, the institute closed while we where attending. This forced 2 years of loans without any hope of graduating on us. We then applied to DigiPen and graduated. Together we have $85,000 in loans eating us alive. I wanted to raise my children with the same gaming passion I grew up with. But now I want to provide for their future by saving for their education. Even though I work in the gaming industry, we are living paycheck to paycheck. My daughter just turned four and my son just reached one. It's time for me to put the toys away and do what I can. I have to try.

$85,000 (Please keep "Rip-Off" posts to a minimum. I'm doing my best and hoping for a miracle)

Here is my eBay link:

85k starting bid?
you may want to be more realistic than that.
my heart goes out to you man,
but you might be wasting your time setting your expectations so astronomically high.

good luck on trying to pay the bills,
but maybe you should look into loan consolidation.
and some other alternatives in addition to selling off the collection.

What are the Paypal fees on $85,000?

I'd also try craigslist too. good luck.

I hope they cap it at some point, that would be quite insane.

I strongly advise you to break it up into smaller lots. I think most people are only interested in stuff for one or two systems, rarely someone is interested in the whole lot, especially if the resale value (for stuff they are not interested in) is not enough.

Great collection, sad to see it go.

Loan consolidation is impossible for private alternative loans. It was the only option given to me for my education. The interest is high, the balance never goes down, and they split the loans up so each loan only gets a tiny bit to the balance. In reality it's split up 6 times. I pay $1k a month just to reach minimum payments. I know it's a long shot, but I must try.

At least this is a better deal than the guy that wants $35,000 for just a NES.

if you do break this up, i'm interested in a FUCK TON of shit. would be willing to do reasonable offers on em too. nothing in high K range though. I'd rather buy a house for 85k, shit where i live, i could buy 2 homes for that.

at the end of the day if/when u do sell this crap, you're just gonna kick yourself. Everyone has student debt loans, but not everyone has a lifes time worth of video game collections and memories.

That has to be the best shelf for NES cartridges I've ever seen. It's like they were made for them.

Which Dreamcast variation is that? Or is it a replacement shell?

As everyone else has said, you really need to break this down into smaller lots if you're to be taken seriously. You have a lot of great stuff that I'm sure would sell if you sold it in separate bundles.

Then again, you could always write to Kotaku or Destructoid and maybe get your story put on their site like the NES guy. :p

when this doesn't sell, and you realize you should part it out...i want to buy your zelda games, virtual boy and then pick and choose from other random shit (famicom system, ROB, a number of games).

also, $85k is weak. my wife and i have around $350k in student loans...now THAT sucks!

This is true, I have a buddy in law school and $85k is about the amount of loans he had halfway through, so double that and that's the kind of debt he'll be up to his eyeballs in when he gets through.

VRC-SID, have you considered seeing if you could get a personal loan through a bank that would at least consolidate some of the debt?

I still want that pong clock too BTW!!!! Dibs if/when you split this up!

BTW, thanks for all the support. I know its a unrealistic long shot. If/When it comes time to split it all up, I will come here first.

i should have come across more supportive, since i'm in the same boat. I hope you DO sell this and make some cash. I wish you luck. But yeah, if it doesn't work out, there are quite a few things (as i listed above) that i'd buy off you.

Thanks and good luck!

i feel for you buddy. my gf has 90 k in loans, she makes pretty decent money though. but you need to be realistic, get on line and add those games up..and just because a mint copy of ff7 went for 200 dollars a year ago doesnt mean that it is valued at that .add up the most recent sales and average them out. i know its a vast undertaking but at least you will have a realistic price. my collection is maybe 4 times the size of yours and i have alot more jap shmups and rare fighters i dont think its worth 85k maybe not even 35k....good luck!!!

I feel for you dude, I really do, and I hope your situation improves... but I'm just going to say, as somebody that follows this kind of stuff and has for many years... that collection is worth $8-10k TOPS, and I mean tops, if you found somebody to buy the whole thing.

If you'd sell it piecemeal in a methodical manner, and come to terms with the fact that it will take you a substantial period of time in order to effectively liquidate it all, you'd have far more luck.

Another sales protip: Don't jinx your listings by injecting personal woes (amassed debt, whatever) into the sales pitch. This will have the opposite of the desired effect.
