From the final few posts, it sounds like we're actually doing the right thing...

LOL. I love the butthurt in that KLOV thread. I'd agree, we've definitely reached the pinnacle of innanet forums. Other forums seem to universally dislike us, and we like it that way.

Fucking wimps.

I love post #13.

I know this is an old thread, but I joined last night, and I am extremely disappointed with it.It just plain sucks due to the fact that it's extremely not user friendly.

I presume he means not user friendly much like New York wasn't user friendly to Bobby Bonilla.

It's funny to hear so many people whine acting like we're all bullies over here, but every year we pick up countless new great members who didn't have a single problem hopping right on in. Also the fact that we allow all out flaming of each other with little Mod interference and still overall it's generally pretty calm.

Lets see some other forum suddenly throw up an all out war room and the mods step back; place would go to total chaos.

We're the self-disciplined military of the interent.

Wow, some guy is still harboring serious Mouse Master hate from the late 90s.

Internet. Serious business.

Which is in its own way hilarious because he's one of the least controversial people on the site; only this side of JM_Kurtz in terms of being someone who stays out of nonsense.

Speaking of M_M, he's taken a look at the moderation queue and were going to see if we can't clear it out (it was so full that, at least for the last 6 months, I'd been unable to move anything out of it). Hopefully we can keep it maintained regularly so there isn't as much confusion.

Ya know, if someone is THAT impatient that they cannot wait a week and a few posts to be able to do stuff....do you really want that kind of asshole in here trying to make deals?
Seems that's all they want to do anyhow.

mouse master is pretty invisible around here.
even back then, I can't see why anyone would have
problems with him.
I think I used to talk with him in chat way back in the day
great guy.
anyways. i don't know the process about new members
since I haven't been one for about 10 years,
but maybe there should be a sticky in the new members introduction forum or something.
seeing all the threads about not knowing how, where, and whatever about posting
is getting a little annoying.
I'm all for keeping the protections there still though.

We could explain it out more, but we choose not to tip our cap --its sort of like the Israeli government's policy on their nuclear program and covert assassinations.

I'll help...

Thanks again, that really did help!

Being a new member here, I'd have to say the stuff they recently posted are mostly untrue. Like the guy claiming he can't view his own profile. Did he even bother clicking on his own username? And the one that searched "neo 29" or "metal slug"? This is a joke, right?

I was the one who posted that about searching "Metal Slug". And it's true. Try it yourself! It goes to an error page if you search for metal slug, even if you restrict it to just one section. It's most likely that the game is mentioned in pretty much almost every other thread...

This is what I get. Maybe it'll be different for you:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 25165824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 262144 bytes) in /home/www/neo-geo/forums/search.php on line 1156

Yeah, the thread approval queue is packed full with posts, I said that a few months ago already when I tried to approve a post of a guy who came here during the Stewart Campbell drama. He posted a lenghty reply that went straight to the queue, then I tried to approve it but got an error.

Thankfully, you can directly approve a post in a thread, I do that all the time.

But yeah, there are a few rough edges in the ol' forum software, that's for sure.

As for the search errors, you get these if you search for very common words. Obviously some values in the php.ini of the system aren't properly set which results in php getting not enough memory for the search, at least that's my analysis of the problem.

Other than that, you will always have some guys complaining about stuff. Yes, it may be a minor (or major) annoyance for a good new member who seriously wants to be a part of the ng.com community but sadly the number of idiots is far higher than that of good new faces so I don't think it would be a good idea to lower our defence in this regard. It's already bad enough as it is.

We could just look into RetroHacker's account and try to fix it for him.

Anyhow, I'm glad that we don't have all those russian spambots on the boards. Our measures are not draconian. Draconian would mean like, we ban people for speaking their mind. Rather, we just make sure people wait a bit before becoming full members.

I wish we could implement a citizenship exam as well, where failure would redirect the member to gamefaqs.

Making the initial posts or at least trying to make an introductory post was really awkward but it passed soon enough, no big deal. Given the mass amounts of spammers I can't really complain and wasabi was cool with getting my account/posts sorted out. What would be nice if the conditions of becoming a 'full' member were made a little clearer because I didn't know what was going on at first and felt like I was going nowhere.

after reading the responses in this thread,
I think it's obvious what the solution is to this problem.
New members should not have privileges to create threads or post in the suggestions forum.

Advanced Search:

Search terms: Metal Slug
Search titles only
At most 0 replies

Result:

18 pages worth of threads with the earliest dated back to 9/29/2000. These are just the threads with zero replies.

This is telling me two things:

1. Close to, if not every single post of every single thread ever created in the forums is archived somewhere, with no purges.

2. You'd need a mainframe computer of a major university AND a satellite-to-satellite bandwidth to make the search for "Metal Slug" work.

lol, right...
Or be MUCH more specific with search terms/locations/etc.

I'm saying it could use some improvements to make it a better forum.I don't think it's as user-friendly as it could be.And wouldn't everyone agree that they would want to improve the forum and try to make it even better?

Congratulations on:

1. Being able to figure out an internet forum and how to actually post on our suck ass corner of the internet.
2. Validating my feelings towards every other video game forum on the internet.
3. Tucking your balls back when you finally could post here because that's the only way you'll survive here.

That thread was awesome. It makes me happy to know that we're fending off most of the pretentious or douchey thin skinned dickbaggy nerds out there on reputation alone. I can't imagine how shitty this place would be if we didn't run people out on a rail. (Those of whom who deserved it, as it were...)

It's also hillarious that although we're assholes, we're still not so horrible that they can't browse for a deal. ;)

Reading that thread only encourages me to be more of an asshole to outsiders that come in here with their guns blazing or expecting any sort of kid gloves because they're "important" on another site.

The internet only serves to foster shut-in nerds and their self-image complexes.

Gutsman should go back to KLOV and jerk off onto his PCB collection while cursing the site.

lol, you are one dumb ass mother fucker. Just leave before you change your opinion about this place, the earlier the better, you know you don't want to be here anyway.

I wish we could implement a citizenship exam as well, where failure would redirect the member to gamefaqs.

This would be great, I'm sure it will thin the herd nicely, even some of the old farts out to be purged from here, bunch of fucking scum all over the place thinking they are something special 'cause their momma said so.

I feel there's a very small amount of people that actually care for this place and want the best for it. I for one care more than I should for the community and even at that I don't want to be part of this place anymore, but here I am posting again.

This place is venomous for the likes of me. This place is just way too lenient with all the random douchebags that spread like a motherfucking plague.
