I decided to have MCS-arcade do some custom Ikaruga artwork for my Blast City. Here I are some pics of the art. It should be arriving some time soon after Christmas.:buttrock::buttrock::buttrock:

 I felt the same way when I saw it. It turned out better than I could have expected. Sean did a great job!

Thanks everyone, I will definitely post pics when I get the art put on the cab. I hope it will arrive within the week following Christmas. I am going to cut a new control panel to apply the new art on. I want a L13B panel but want to pick the position of both the stick and the buttons. Anyone have an opinion on the button color? I was thinking of this:

I also thought of vermilion as a possibility. Thoughts???

How much was it to have it printed out?

Very nice stuff.

I'd try black buttons on the cp as well.

Beautiful!!! Can't wait to see it on the cab.

Have you thought about doing 2 tone buttons (using different color plunger and shell). I think a yellow / black combo would look pretty bad ass with that artwork.

Or maybe a blue / black...

White for 1p
Black for 2p

Just to keep the Ikaruga theme going. Or both white Balltops with black plunger white ring.

Don't be throwing in colors in there, it's gonna steal away from the theme.

Clar hardware would be sick too though, you can save teh art from the holes and install it in the plungers. Now that would be sick.

Yeah I thought of black with yellow 2 tone buttons, but not sure how it will look without actually trying it.

I have to say that your idea of clear buttons to preserve the artwork is awesome! I am definitely going to try this one out.

This control panel art will be for a single player panel for shooters - three buttons only. I just got a 2L12b Sanwa control panel in from excellent for 2 player gaming.

It would have been $175 just to print all seven pieces - I also had to pay to have the work done - I think I got a great package price - $250 shipped for everything.

Single player CP's are awsome for shmups, I'd just switch the harness if you ever decide to use the 2p ship for whatever reason.

250 is reasonable if the material used is top notch. Who's doint the printing work?

All the work and printing was done by Sean also know as maxchainsplendid at mcs-arcade. Materials are top notch - he has been doing this kind of work for years and there are quite a few samples of his work that can be seen on arcadeotaku. You can also buy his reproduction cp artwork on segashed.

I like the black shell red plunger, but I might get a couple different types and try them out. Right now I am leaning towards black ball top, black shell, clear plunger with art from the button holes mounted in the plunger. I think this arrangement would allow the art to stand out rather than take from it.

The graphics for this are amazing. Did you do the design work and the "worked it up" to what you posted, are did they do off the designing?

Are they giant stickers? or static cling vinyl?

The original artwork is by axialpoint. I did the design work, if you could call it, that to put together some examples of what I was looking for. I used my "mad skills" in MS paint to make the following mock ups.

Control Panel design mock up

Marquee design mock up

I have some other mock ups for the side art, but they are laughably bad. You can see from the mock ups that he did a great job of capturing what I was going for. The credit really goes to Sean for taking took my hideous mock ups and turned them in to something that looks professional to the point of appearing O.E.M.

Luckily for me, Sean had already done reproduction Blast City side art and Astro/Blast/Universal control panel work. He had also done some previous Ikaruga artwork for himself - the moves list is untouched from when he did it for himself so no additional work was necessary for that. I guess a lot of the ground work had been done by him already already - which is why the project was able to be completed for such a reasonable price. Sean is a really reasonable guy, I am very fortunate to have worked with him on this project.

Incredibly, the final printed product was the first draft I received from Sean with no changes made to it!

The upper and lower side art and control panel are stickers. The marquee is printed on back-lit film so that it can be illuminated the way a marquee should be.

I think the white and black theme for the buttons is great. You could do white buttons with black plungers for 1p and black with white for 2p.
