There is a chance that the hardware repair person could have pulled something. I find that scenario unlikely. But, it's possible.

That rationale that the "User Level 2" poster gives that "we don't detail how we check. It means people could hack your account" seems almost... ludicrous.

What does a cooling repair have to do with the live account?
I want to say that that's a higher ranked poster who's decided to troll.
But, that seems like giving Microsoft too much credit.

I dunno. Both sides there don't sound like the whole story is being told.

On the Xbox forums, Level 1 is the lowest user level. Most people who post there are either level 1 or level 2. Those who actually work for Microsoft have letters instead of numbers for their level.

From what I've been reading, it seems that the only way to get a non-modded console unbanned is to PM the head of Xbox support via the Xbox forums.

Ok first of all they can't tell you have an aftermarket fan on the console, there is no way for them to check it. However if you have put a new fan on it that supports +12v, like some turbo fans do then they can ban you, they can tell the fan is drawing more power from the mobo than normal and then they'll ban you. Which imo is bullshit. You can fix your car with whatever parts you wish they don't have to be from the manufacturer, and they cannot void your warrantee over it. If you took them to court you'd win.

I think my current job has lowered by Apple fanboi status from "Rabid" to checking TUAW thrice a month.

I got a 360 for Netflix and exclusives...but I turn it on MAYBE once a month. The PS3 is still the way to go IMHO.

I had a shitty experience with Xbox support this week.

I started up my console like normal and went to My Videos to watch some of The Guild that I had downloaded last week. Since I have the "preview" dashboard, going to watch your DL videos automatically logs you into the Zune marketplace for no fucking reason. I experienced firsthand the folly of using this system when the Zune marketplace was "temporarily unavailable", meaning that I couldn't access any of the video content on my HDD.

I called to bitch...FORTY FUCKING MINUTES of waiting led me to a bitch who kept putting me on hold and giving me the runaround. When I asked to go over her head, she put me on hold and the call timed out. When I called back, it timed out before I even got to the main menu.

Fuck this stupid fucking company. Last fall XBL was the premier online service for consoles...hard to believe that they've fucked it up so badly in the past few months. As long as Sony keeps rolling out the solid PSN updates, MS is fucked.

My experiences with Microsoft have went well. I got the RROD and from the day I sent it out, I got it back within 2 weeks with a free month of XBL card. But reading all of this makes me want to fire it up to see if I'm banned as well. I got banned on my original xbox, but that was because I had it modded hehe
