Finally got my Laserdisc set up!

Well, with all the help from everyone here I've gotten my laserdisc player and surround sound set up now.

I have to say I was suprised at how well the picture looked. I'm running it on my home theater projector and really did not expect it to be as good as it was. It's not hd quality or such but as far as standard defintion goes it looks better than pretty much anything else I've hooked up to my system. It is every bit as good as when I play dvds on it.

So it's been at least over 10 years from the last time I had seen the Starwars movies in their original format. I had gotten pretty jaded with the whole saga but I went back and watched the first 3 and really had a good time.

I forgot how impressive Empire was. There were some great scenes and I really liked the stop motion. Thats by far my favorite out of the 3. Well worth the cost and effort to get it set up to see those like that again. The sound quality on the discs is pretty nice as well. I had never had a surround set up before so maybe I'm a bit not qualified to judge but none the less I liked it.

I don't have everything set up where it is going to stay yet. I'm getting a piece of furnature next weekend that I'll be putting my stuff on so that it is all under my projection screen. Right now it is on a tower shelf by where I sit and makes it hard to point the remote at the systems. Once everything is done and in place I'll get some pictures if anyone cares.

Also I'm very happy with the speakers I got from this place.

The had some of the best shipping packing I have ever seen.

But when you think about it, Laser Disc is even better than DVD because you don't get to stop and flip over DVDs in the middle of a movie which is always a hoot.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but your post reads like, "I finally got my Laser Disc setup up and running, and it's every bit as good as my DVD player which I already had!" with a side helping of, "Of course it's not as good as Blu-Ray." I could understand better if it was a nostalgia thing, but your other thread made it sound like you never had one before (correct me if I'm wrong here), so I do not get the fascination with LD.

Still, it's not like I don't have hopelessly outdated technology in my own home (MVS cab), so clearly my hypocrisy knows few bounds. If this LD stuff gives you pleasure, then enjoy it and ignore people like me who think you are crazy.

Nope I never had one. And the sarcasam is quite cool and welcome. It's all really just light hearted nonsense for me. I was just kind of saying that I was shocked that it turned out as good as the dvd player I already had as I expected it to be a good bit worse.

It's to me not better than having a dvd or such, just something cool that I never got to have when they were out. I always wanted one and it is just something neat to have on the shelf. I really like the discs though with the big jackets and artwork.

Yeah it is a one of those nostalgia things, but not because I used to have one, more like when I was a kid I thought they were super cool and always wanted one. I've not any plans on building a huge collection of movies, but do want to pick up a few movies I liked from years back. Most of them will go on a shelf where I can see the covers.

Also the flipping it over and changing discs thing is pretty nifty. I think that will be a blast at parties.

So is it better than my dvd player... no not really, well not at all but it is bigger!

I kind of have a thing for outdated technology, seeing as how I have a dozen or so of these 300+ pounds video games taking up my space.

No but more to the point the room it is set up in is a work in progress game, hang out room that I am trying to build up a kind of theme in so it fits in pretty cool. I got my boxed game systems nes, atari, intellivision on the shelf above my couch and hords of old boxed games for them. I don't play them, but it is nice to know that I could if I ever wanted too. The laserdisc just kind of fits in with stuff from my youth is all and if I was going to get one I though I may as well get a good one that I could use and enjoy if I wanted too.

I still need to find a good working Beta player to throw in there.

Then when I'm dead and gone my daughter can be like.. What the hell am I going to do with all dad's useless outdated old ass crap, and what the fuck is up with these giant DVD?

On a side note I actually don't own but just a few dvds and no music cds. But I do have one record and no player for it yet. I hope when I get one it will be almost as good as the cd player I already have.

Verily, you are a weird one. What do you do for entertainment, stare at the fireplace?

Cool, glad you're having fun with it.

I think a lot of the attraction to LD for me is because it's old and flawed. IMO there are some movies that just should be watched in a blurry, noisy analog format.
