icon16.gif Astro City PSU that WILL NOT run Cave SH3 Hardware.

This is for those who were in the group purchase or have an Astro and want to run anything on Cave's SH3 hardware.

There are a few types of PSU's that came in the NAC's...

http://www.setsuan.com/alimentation-...ew-astro-city/

This model:

Will NOT run the Cave SH3 boards.

Its thought to be becuase of a lower amperage, but I have the black model that outputs 7A and Deathsmiles works just fine.

So if you plug your Cave board in and it flickers the red light - your PSU might not be strong enough.

There is an alternative: http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&p=93874

Luckily my guy had a spare PSU to swap me out today...

I'm up and running again.

Just a heads up.

Seriously! That's pushing like half or less of what the majority of the psu's in my cabs push.

You MUST have a >+10A PSU.

I have a black 7A PSU that works fine.

Not sure why though.

I've got one of those PSU's in the astro I use for fighters. Luckily my vert one has the nice 12 amp in it.

Any clue why the black 7A's will work and the grey 7A's will not?

Just swapped DS MBL and Mushi on either PSU and they both work fine.

Theres just something about the grey PSU that won't work.

I'd like to know the real reason - because unless the ratings are incorrect on the black PSU's, every one I've worked with (5) have worked.

I have a handful of Astros local that I can test on.

Maybe the 12V ?

EDIT : No they are both 1.5A on the 12V... Maybe some components.

Maybe you could follow the methodology here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28853

It could be a wiring issue where you don't have all the +5 that you need, putting more burden on the PS.

Or not... but it's worth running down like they did on the Egret II's.
